The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To all whom it may concern I Be it known thatwe, RUFUS S. Ml'rcnnnn and Gnonen Z. Knssmenn, ofElizabeth, in the county of Harrison, and Stateof Indiana, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Boltsifor Elouring- Mills; and we do hereby declare 'thatthe'followingis a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and opcrationof the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making apart of this specification. The nature of our inventionconsists in stretching anelastic cord, orother flexiblematerial, parallel and lengthwise the bolting-reel, and fastening itto springs, attached in any convenient manner to the boltingchest, which cord, passing over the'ratchefibands, around the'reel or shaft, is allowed to snap each side of the bolting-reel one or more times as it revolves, forthe purpose of cleaning thebolting-cloth, and preventing beards from Working into the cloth and inj uring it. p v i i L "Weconstruct a bolting-reel in the usual manner, and stretch an elastic cord, A, or other flexible material, as shownin the dottedline, Figure 1, parallel and lengthwise the exterior surface of the reel, and
fasten it to springs B B, attached in anyconvenient manner to the bolting-chest. g .Around the middle, or at each end of the reel, are
ratchet-bands K K, which raise the cord, and allow. i it to snap orwhip each, side of the bolting-reel, one
or more times asit revolves. v 1 i The cord at an is provided with leather, or other suitable material, to prevent injury by friction; or by placing similar projections to K K upon the shaft, and using a cam-shaped lever, the cord may be raised and let fall, and the same effect produced.
We are aware that projections similar to K K have been used for the purpose of jarring the reel; therefore we do not claim only the extra bands for the purpose herein described. r
' Around the reel, in one or more places,, are flexible .hands H H, to prevent the snapping or whipping of the cord from injuring the bolting-cloth.
On each end of the cord, after passing through the springs, may be fastened weight-s sufficient to draw the cord out of the bolting-chest, and prevent it from injuring the cloth, if at'any time it should be broken.
What we claim as our invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
In combination with a bolting-reel, having ratchetbands K K, placed on each end, the arrangement of the cord A, extending lengthwise the exterior of the bolt, and fastened to springs B B, substantially in the manner herein set forth.
