To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Arowlo E. linoAnns, a citizen of the United States, and. resident of-I-Iopedale, county of'Wm-eester, State of Massachusetts, have invei'itod an- Improvement in Thread. Parting Mechanism for Looms, of which the following description, in connection with the accompanying draw-- ing, S a specification, like letters on the draw in representing like parts.

mechanism is provided to clamp the old lling-end and part it near the shuttle, the clamped end then being drawn forward to bring it into range of the temple tl1readcut ter so that the latter may sever the end close to the cloth. The clamping of the filling-end was positive, and in on er to prevent breakage of the end when the parting and clamping mechanism returne 'l to normal position means were provided in said patent to move such mechanism in a diagonal path toward the edge of the cloth, thereby relieving the clam ,ed end from strainand preventing 'brea age.

The various novel features of my invention will be fully described in the subjoined specification and particularly pointed out in the following claims.

Referring to Fig. 2 it .wilLbe seen that the groove in the controlleris substantially at right angles to the lay at its rear end, as at 11, (see dotted lines) so that the final move ment of the feeleracross the lay will be in a direct line and straight across the mouth of the shuttle-box.
When filling-replenishment is called for the carrier 4 is swung rearward on its fixed fulcrum 2 to the osition shown in Fig. 3, and it carries the fee or with it, but as the follower 10 travels along the cam-like controller 11 the feeler will be moved laterally on its fulcrum 6 from its normal, inoperative position shown in full lines, Fig. 2, into position directly opposite the recess a on the lay and the opening I), as in dotted lines Fig. 2. Thus the feeler is moved away from the edge of the cloth as it is moved to operative position', and u on return movement the reverse action is eiiected, the'feeler moving toward the edge of the cloth, for a purpose to be explained hereinafter. As a result the thread to be parted is trapped in what is practically a closed space, for it crosses the opening I) and between the edges of the blades and hence cannot escape when said blades are closed, as the box wall holds the thread from rearward movement and the blades prevent it from moving up or down, or forward, out of the opening between their edges.
