Description
PATENTED AUG. 11
I E. J. KIRK. DISPLAY STAND. APPLIUATION FILED AUG. 28, 1907.
EDWARD JAMES KIRK, OF BRAOEBRIDGE, ONTARIO, CANADA.
DISPLAY-STAND.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 11, 1908.
Application filed August 28, 1907. Serial No. 390,497.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDWARD J AMES KIRK, of the town of Bracebridge, in the district of Muskoka,.in the Province of Ontario, Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Display-Stands, of which the following is the specification.
My invention relates to improvements in display stands particularly adaptable for the display of biscuits in tins, and the object of the invention is to provide a stand in which biscuit tins may be placed in a vertical se ries of rows and so arranged as to exhibit in an advantageous manner a maximum number of boxes and which willbe strong and durable, and it consists essentially of a frame formed by end standards and a series ofconnecting bars, brackets secured beneath the bars and inclined downwardly and terminating in an end lip, a box supported on the brackets designed to contain the tins of biscuits, end brackets secured to the standards and inclined downwardly into proximity with the top of the box, a spring lid for the box pivoted between the said brackets and having recesses in which the sample tins are detachably secured above their respective biscuit boxes, as hereinafter more particularly explained by the following specificationr Figure 1 represents a generalperspective view of my display stand. Fig. 2 is a vertical cross sectional view through the stand. Fig. 3 is a detail view of the box for contain ing the tins. Fig. 4 is a detail view showing the biscuit tins arranged 011 the stand, the box for holding the tins being dispensed with.
In the drawings like letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in each figure.
1 are the end standards having suitable base pieces 2. 3 are cross bars.
4 are brackets formed by metallic bars having horizontal portions 5 bolted to beneath the cross bars 3, the inclined portions 6 and the end lips 7.
8 are boxes designed to be supported on the inclined portions of the brackets 4 against the lips 7.
9 and 9 are brackets secured to the standards and provided with inclined portions 10 extending downwardly into proximity to the top of the boxes 8.
11 are the lids of the boxes 8. The lids '11 are pivoted'between thebrackets 9 and 9.
12 are springs which are inserted between the lids and the box at the hinge point there of and normally hold the lid of the box open and thereby prevent any danger of the lid falling. When the lid is closed I secure the same by a suitable catch 13.
14 are the biscuit tins the lids of which are opened and bent back behind them and the tins inserted in the box as shown. The lids of the boxes are provided with recesses 15 (see Fig. 3) on the inside thereof above each biscuit tin, the recesses having openings 16. III these recesses are secured the sample tins 17 having openings provided with a suitable glass 18. The tins are held in the recesses by the turn nuts 19. If desired the boxes 8 may be dispensed with and the brackets 4 formed intoa suitable shelf for holding the tins, the
lids 11 extending over the row of tins as shown in Fig. 4.
From this description it will be seen that I have constructed a simple and durable form of stand on which tins of biscuits may be conveniently exhibited and to the best advantage. It will also be seen from this description that no matter whether the biscuit tins are full or not the samples will always be in the position to be seen conveniently.
What I claim as my invention is:
A display stand for biscuits and the like comprising end standards, connecting cross bars, inclined brackets forming shelves for the tins containing the biscuits, brackets secured to the standard having inclined portions extending down into proximity with the tops of the tins, lids pivoted between the brackets, the lids being provided with recesses for containing sample tins suitably held therein the recesses having a central opening as and for the purpose specified.
EDWARD JAMES KIRK.
