samples of the oil-cloths on the floor for inspection. As the retailer usually carries a large assortment, it requires considerable time of the salesman to unroll and roll up the many different samples, and the result is that the actual cost of se ling the goods is so great as to become burdensome to the retaileras well as annoying to the salesman.
This invention has for its object to construct an exhibiting device especially adapted for holding a large number of samples of oilcloths and for displaying them in full view 4 of the purchaser in such manner that they may be closely inspected and the proper light may be directed upon the displayed samples.
The invention consists-in a skeleton frame or structure having attached to one side of it an uprightreceptacle which is closed at the bottom and open at the top and is adapted to contain a large numberof samples of oilcloths arranged as flat sheets vertically disposed and also having an inclined displayboard mounted on to of it, at the lower edge of which an upward -extendedlip is provided. The device is mounted on casters, so that it may be easily moved from place to place in order that the best light may be directed onto the display-board.
Figure 1 shows in perspective view an exhibiting device embodying this invention. Fig. 2 is a rear side view of the exhibiting device shown in Fig. 1'; and Fig. 8 is a vertical section of the exhibiting device, taken on the dotted line 3 3, Fig. 2. Y
The skeleton frame consists of four upright corner-posts a b c (1, connected together by horizontal bars e. To one side of this frame an upright receptacle is attached, consisting of side walls f f and end wallsf f and a bottom wall f, the top of the receptacle being open. The receptacle is supported, essentially, upon a pair of brackets g, attached to the posts 0 and d at or near their lower ends. The receptacle extends from the top to the bottom of the skeleton frame and is adapted to contain a large number of flat sample sheets, which are placed vertically therein, as shown in Fig. 3.
On top of the skeleton frame an inclined display-board h is mounted, which is attached to and supported by the frame, the upper edge of said board terminating substantially flush with the upper end of the receptacle and the lower edge terminating at the front of the frame. At the lower edge of the displayboard an upright lip h is provided, which is attached to the frame. The rear Wall of the rece tacle will be cut away, as at f to more easi y obtain access to the sheets disposed therein.
The device-is mounted upon casters 'as, for instance, there 'will be a caster at the lower end of each corner-post and also one at or about the middle of the receptacle.
The salesman will move the exhibiting device to a place Where the light strikes advantageously upon the display-board and while standing back of the receptacle will remove the samples therefrom, lay them on the display-board directly in front of the purchaser,
the sheets reposing flat thereon and resting against the lip it.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
An exhibiting device consisting of a frame comprising corner-posts, and bars connecting them together, brackets attached to the lower ends of the rear corner-posts, an upright receptacle supported on said brackets and attached to the frame, which extends from the top to the bottom thereof, and has a closed bottom and an open top, an inclined display-board attached to the top of the frame, an upright lip at the lower edge of said display-board, and casters at the lower ends of the corner-posts and at the under side of the receptacle, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have-signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
JOHN O. HINKLEY.
