Description

PATENTED AUG. 11, 1908.
SNELLBNBURGL HOSPITAL NIGHTGOWN.
APYLIGATION FILED APR. 24, 1968..
IIIYENTR l TTORNEY.
25 hereinafter' described.
EDYTHE SVNELLENBURG, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA;
. HOSPITAL-NIGHTGOWN.
To all whom 'it may concern.'
Be it known that LEnrrHE SNELLENBURG, citizen of the United States, residing in the city o Philadelphia, State of Pennsylvania,
- have invented certain new and useful lm- Aproveniente in Hospital- Nightgowns, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings',` forming a part of this specification.
My invention relates to a new garment,-
which may be roperly termed a hospital nightgown, and ias for its object to provide a bed garment, of that class, for sick persons,
in hospital use, which shall be capable of b eing initially applied to a recumbent patient and then fastened thereon 'with a minimum of disturbance ofthe erson, and which shall also be devoid of any uttons, hooks. or
other projecting fastenin's.V
To. these ends my invention consists of a hos ital nightgown, `which may be and is pre erably made of muslin as heretofore,
aving the novel features of construction as In the drawings illustrating the same, Figvure 1 is a plan view of the front of the garment; Fig. 2 a. like view of the garment,v
from the back or rear side, in fastened osition, and Fig. 3 a detached section, o the rear side or back, with the meeting edges slightly separated, illustrating the method and means of fastening.
Referring-now to said drawings, the garment is preferably made of mushn, as usual.
It is constructed integrallv closed in front as indicated at a Fig. 1, the 'back being formed of portions b, b, which are integral with or connected by a seam with the front portion,
40 said portions i7, forming the back, being normally separate at their meetin edges, from bottom to top, including the yo e c and collar d. i
The garment may be, and is preferably,
formed with a yoke ortion c both front and back, and with a co lar d. Sleeves e, e, are secured to arm holes in the yoke portion. It is obvious therefore that as the edges of the back ortions of body, yoke and collar,
are in. para] el alinement, they may be'caused to overlap or atleast be brought close together, and 'that the garment can be placed on the arms and body of a rccumbent patient without moving the latter except only suii- Specicaton of Letters Patent. I pplcaton le April 24, 1908. Serial No. 28,897.

cient to bring the meeting edges of the back into coincidence. In order to removably 'hold these parts in such position, with the edges together, or sli htlv overlapping, as may be l )desired, I pi'ovide the following means, and this is an essential part ofthe invention `because it not only effects the pur- .pose stated but does it in such way that there are no buttons, hooks or other projections used which wouldpress against the patients back.
On the rearward part of the garment and adl acent to the meeting edges of the divided colar d, d, is provided a pair of loops h, h, (see Fig. 3) one on each of the opposite edges in different horizontal lanes, and in like mamier and in like re ative arrangement, two bands m, m, are'sewed, adapted to pass through the said loops, one through each, the ends of the bands m, am., being then brought around the neck and tied in the Y front, as indicated in Fig. 1.
To secure the back coinciding edges of the body portion of the garment a pair of loops n, n, is provided, sewed to the opposite edges respectively, and co-acting therewith is a lpair of bands s, a, sewed on such oplposite edges, adapted to be drawn throng such loops and then brought around the body of the garment to the front and there tied asindicated at t in Fig. l. The garment thus constructed is simple, readily pnt upon a patient and even more readily removed, Wit the least possible disturbance when the patient is in a recumbent position, land moreover is adapted to be secured upon the person b means which present no projecting and o jectionable surfaces, such as buttons, hooks, 85e., to press against the back of the wearer when lying down.
Having thus described my invention, I
'claim as new and desire to secure by Letters As a new article of manufacture, a hospital niglltgown, comprising a body portion, a. yo e ortion, anda' collar portion, the garment ing integral in front and longitndinally separated in the back from to to bot.- tom, a loop on each edge of the divi ed collar and yoke portions, arranged in different planes, ivith a pair of bands arranged in like manner thereon, Ithe bands on one edge adapted to engage the loop on the opposite edge, and a pair of loops on the opposite 'ooineiding edges of the body portion, with a. In testimony whereof, I have hereunto pair of fustening bands thereon, the band on affixed my signature this 22nd dey of April ,i ea'oh edge likewise adapted to engage the A.
