To all whom it may concern:

- Be it known that I, GEORGE E. BIGELOW, a citizen of the United States, residing at Worcester, in the county of Worcester and Commonwealth of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Corner-Posts for Spring-Beds, of which the following is a specification, accompanied by drawings, forming a part of the same, in which Figure 1 is a top view of my improved corner post. Fig. 2 is a side view of the same, and Fig. 3 is a front view of the same with the side rail of the bed shown in section.

Similar reference letters and figures refer to similar parts in the diflerent views.

My invention relates to a corner post by which the end and side rails of a spring bed are united, with the end rails supported above the side rails and in position to have a spring bed bottom attached thereto.

In the accompanying drawings I have shown one of my improved corner posts with one end of a side rail and one end of an end rail connected by the corner post. In the construction of bed bottoms at present it is necessary, in order to disconnect the side and end rails, to remove the connecting bolts and pins, thereby making a number of loose pieces when the bed bottom is disconnected, and it is the object of my present invention to provide a means for connecting the end and side rails of a bed bottom, so that the bed bottom may be .easily disconnected, leaving, however, all connecting links and bolts attached to the end and side rails of the bed bottom so that all liability of their loss is obviated.

Referring to the accompanying drawings in which one only of the four corner posts of a bed bottom is shown, 1 denotes one of the side rails of the bed bottom and 2 one of the end rails, said end and side rails being preferably formed of a strip of iron or steel angle iron. 4, 4, of the post 3 are compressed to firmly grasp the side rail 1 by a bolt 12 and nut 13 immediately above the side rail 1. The end rail 2 is placed in position on the top 10 of the post 3 and in the hooks 8, 8, and is secured in position by a bolt 14 and nut 15, the head of said bolt overlapping the edge of the horizontal portion 11 of the end rail 2. In either case one nut only is slightly loosened without removing the not from the bolt or the bolt from the corner post, and the corner post remains attached by the other bolt and nut either to the end or side rail as the case may be. The assemblage of the end and side rails is equally simple and tightening the loosened nut secures the bed bottom in its operative position. The ends of the

What I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. The combination with the end and side rails of a bed bottom, of a corner post, means for detachably attaching said side rail to saidcorner post, a seat on said corner post for supporting said end rail, means for preventing its lateral movement, and a bolt held in said corner post having a portion of its head overlapping said end rail, whereby said end rail may be removed without removing said bolt from said post.
