Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JACOB REIGART AND CHARLES S. BOLL, OF HARRISBURG, PENNSYLVANIA; SAID REIGART ASSIGNOR TO SAID BOLL.
BEDSTEAD-FASTENING.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N o. 620,611 dated March 7,1899.
Application filed September Z8, 1898. Serial No. 692,095. (No model.)
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that We, JACOB REIGART and CHARLES S. BOLL, citizens of the United States, residing at Harrisburg, in the county of Dauphin, State of Pennsylvania, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Bedstead-Fastenings, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
This improvement relates to that class of bedstead-fastenings which is provided with a boss secured to the bed-post and has a hook in which engages a pin or stud projecting from a plate secured to the rail of a bed; and the invention consists in the peculiar construction, arrangement, and combinations of parts hereinafter more particularly described and then definitely claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l represents a perspective view, from the inside, of our improved fastening and part of a bedpost to which it is secured. Fig. 2 is a side elevation from the outside. Fig. 3 is a side elevation of part of the fastening from the inside.
Referring now to the details of the drawings by letters, A represents a part of the bedpost, to which is secured the boss B by any means desired, and projecting from this boss is a hook C. Formed on the boss B are two lugs D and E, one near the upper end and one near the lower end of the hook C, the use of which will be hereinafter described. The other half of the fastening consists of a metallic plate or casting F, provided with a pin or stud G to engage with the hook C, before described. Bearing-surfaces H and I are formed at the top and bottom of this plate and engage with the lugs D and E and coacting with the pin and hook firmly hold the two parts of the casting together. This plate F is of course provided with means by whichit may be secured to the side rail of the bed; but as said fastening means forms no part of our invention further description of it is unnecessary.
The hook C, which has been described as projecting from the boss B, it will be noticed has an inclined acting face C', and this hook, with its inclined face, coperating with the lugs D and E and bearing-surfaces H and I, forms the gist of our invention, and we deem the combination an important one, as the in' clined acting face of the hook operates to bring the lugs and bearing-surfaces together, and as the last-named are formed at each end of the plate F a double bearing-surface is provided which, acting with the said pin and inclined surface of the hook, serves to effectually prevent any rocking of one part Vof the fastening upon the other. Projecting from the rear of the hook and also from the boss is a lug J, and immediately at the rear of this with the rocking usually found in bedsteads having a hook and pin and single bearing'- surface.
We are aware that hooks with inclined faces have before been used in many forms of beadsteads, and hence do not claim such in itself as new; but we are aware of no bedstead wherein a pin and a hook with inclined acting face are used in combination with two sets of bearing-surfaces at a considerable distance apart, such as shown in the accompanying drawings.
What we claim as new isl. A bedstead-fastening comprising a boss B, a hook C projecting therefrom, having an inclined acting -surface O', a lug J extending at right angles from said hook and having a right-angled recess K formed between the lug .I and boss B adapted to receive an angle-iron end rail, and a plate F provided with a headed pin G, all substantially as described and shown.
2. In a bedstead-fastening, a post A having a boss B, a hook Gprojecting therefrom, a lug tures, in the presence of two witnesses, this J extending at right angles from said hook, 241th day of September, 1898.
and a. right-angled recess K formed between JACOB REIGART.
the lug J and boss B for the reception of an CHARLES S. BOLL. 5 angle iron end rail, substantially as de- Witnesses:
scribed. FREDERICK M. OTT.
In testimony whereof we affix our signa.- M. W. JACOBS.
