BEDSTEAD-FASTENING.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 522,821, dated July 10, 1894. Application filed October 15,1898. Serial No. 488,204.. (No model.)

To aZZ whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, WILLIAM F. BERNSTEIN, a citizen of the United States, residing in the cityand countyof Philadelphia, State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Bedstead-Fastenings, which improvement is fully set forth in the following specification and accompanying drawings.

My invention consists of an effective and durable fastening for the rails and posts of a bedstead, especially a metallic bedstead, as will be hereinafter set forth.

Figure 1 represents a perspective view of a bedstead fastening embodying my invention. Figs. 2 and 3 represent side elevations thereof, at a right angle to each other. Fig. 4 represents a side elevation on a reduced scale, the parts of the fastening being separated.

Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several figures.

Referring to the drawings: A designates a fastening, and B designates one of the posts of the bedstead to which said fastening is sethereto the vertical limb H, whose under porcured, said fastening consisting of the boss 0, through which the post passes, and the hooks D and E, which project from said boss, said hooks occupying horizontal positions in different vertical planes, and being separated a sufficient distance to admit the vertical plate F between them, it being noticed that the hooks D are located one below the other, and the hook E isopposite to said hooks D and somewhat intermediate of the same. The plate F has projecting from it on one side, the horizontally extending studs G, which are adapted to rest on the hooks D, D, and on the other side, and at substantially a right angle tion is provided or formed with the hook J, which is adapted to rest on the hook E.

The rails of the bedstead are secured to the platesF H, in any suitable manner, and the plate F is inserted between the hooks D, D, and E, and lowered to full extent, whereby the studs G are seated on the hooks D, and the plate H is seated on the hook E, the hook J of said plateembracing said hook E, by which provision the plate F is doubly interlocked with the bracket 0, and thus firmly connected with the post B through the medium of the boss 0 and attached parts, withpensed with, but the use of both is desired,

as the plate F is rendered more steady by the same, and its connection with the boss or bracket 0 is of greater strength.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. A bedstead fastening consisting of a boss having hooks thereon in different vertical planes, and a plate having a vertical limb at substantiallya right angle thereto,a stud on said plate adapted to rest on one of said hooks, and a hook on said limb adapted to rest on the other hook of said boss, said parts being combined substantially as described.

2. A bedstead fastening consisting of a boss with hooks in difterentvertical planes, and a plate betweenthe opposite hooks, said plate having on one side projecting studs, and on the other side a vertical limb engaging with the opposite hooks, and the parts being combined substantially as described.

3. A boss having hooks in diflferent vertical planes, with a space between the opposite side hooks, in combination with a plate which is provided with studs which engage the hooks on one side, and with a limb which engages the hook on the other side, substantially as described. i

4. A bedstead fastening consisting of a boss having thehorizontal hooks D and E thereon, and the plate F having the vertical limb I-I thereon, said plate fitting between the hooks D and E, and having a stud thereon resting on the hook D, and said'limb having a hook engaging the said hook E, said plate and limb being adapted to be secured to a bed rail, said parts being combined substantially as described.
