UNITED STATES JOSEPH A. MOLLITOR,
ATFNT rricn.
OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
lVl ETAL BEDSTEAD.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 709,551, dated September 23, 1902.
Application filed 81 4I190Z| To (all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, JOSEPH A. MoLLrroR, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Metal Bedsteads; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to improvements in metal bedsteads, more particularlythe corner-fastenings of the same.
The object of my invention is to render the bedstead-frame thoroughly rigid and squaresetting. Improved details in the construction and arrangement of the several parts of my invention will be apparent from the detailed description hereinafter when read in connection with the accompanying drawings, forming part hereof, and the appended claims.
In the drawings, Figure l is a side elevation. Fig. 2 is a like view from the opposite side. Fig. 3 is a front elevation. Fig. 4 is a top plan View.
Referring to the drawings, 6 represents the corner-post of a bedstead and is provided with an enlargement or ledge 7 and a lug 8, the purpose of which will be hereinafter described. The side rail is indicated at 9 and is secured to the corner-post by two plates 10 Serial No. 96,605. (No model.)
and 10, the ends of which are so shaped as to embrace the corner-post, as indicated at 11. The ends of the plates, abut against the lug 8, as indicated at 12, which prevents lateral movement. Screws or other fastening means 13 secure the plates to the side rail 9. By this construction a very rigid bed-frame is obtained and there will be no danger of the parts breaking in putting up or taking down the same. To take down the bed, it is necessary only to remove the screws 13.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new, and desired to be secured by Letters Patent, is-
1. In a corner-fastening for bedsteads, the combination with a corner-post and a side rail, of a lug on the corner-post, plates embracing said corner-post and abutting against the aforesaid lug, said plates being secured to the side rail, substantially as shown and described.
2. In a corner-fastening for bedsteads, the combination with a corner-post, of a ledge and lug thereon, plates supported on said ledge embracing the corner-post and abutting against the aforesaid lug, said plates being'secured to the side rail, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JOSEPH A. MOLLITOR.
