Description

TABLE LEG PAS NNNNN e.
WITN
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HENRY ROSE, 0F PRAIRIE DU SAG, WISCONSIN.
TABLE-LEG FASTENING.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 275,274, dated April 3, 1883.
Application filed February 10, 1883. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, HENRY ROSE, of Prairie du Sac, in the county of Sank and State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Fastenings for Table- Legs; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form apart of this specification, and in which- Figure l is a perspective View of the inside of a corner of a table provided with my improved table-leg fastening. Fig. 2 is avertical sectional view through the corner and fastening, and Fig. 3 is a horizontal sectional View of/the same.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
My invention has relation to fasteniugs for table-legs; and it consists in the improved construction and combination of parts of a fastening which will allow the leg to be detached and attached in a moment of time, and at the same time admit of the fastening being adjustedin case of the table frames orlegs shrinking or warping.
The fastening consists of a corner-iron or metal casting, A, the ends B B of which are bent outward at right angles to each other, and provided with holes I) for the insertion of screws, by which they are secured upon the inper surfaces of the side and end rails A of the table-frame, near their ends. The outer side, 0, of this corner-iron or corner-piece is recessed to correspond with the shape of the upper part of the leg E, which is placed in between the ends of the side and end rails of the frame, while its inner surface, D, is vertically rounded, forming a fulcrum for a flat bar, E, fastened to the leg. This bar is held in place, bearing with its outward facing surface against the rounded inner surface, D, of the corner-piece, by means of a bar, F, secured to the upper en d of the leg by means of a screw passed through a hole, 9, in the bar into the leg, extending in under the table plate or leaf, and having a down ward-projecting lip,f, which catches over and holds the upper end of bar E, and by means of a screw, Gr, passing through a hole, I, in the lower end of the bar into the tableleg below the cOrneupiece. The inward facing side of the bar is re-enforced by a longitudinal web, H, which strengthens the bar without adding too much weight to it.
It will be seen that when the leg is placed in position the inner corner of the same will fit into the recessU in the cross-piece, and that by inserting one end of the bar under hook F and passing the screw Gr through hole I in its lower end and tightening the same the leg may be rigidly secured to the table, and may be adjusted later,if it becomes loose by shrinking or warping of the wood.
Having thus described myinvention, I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States-- 1. In a fastening for table-legs, the combination of the corner-pieces A, having bent ends B B, provided with screw-holes I) for the insertion of screws fastening them to the side rails of the table, the plate F, having downward-projecting lipf, and screw-hole g, for the insertion of a screw securing it to the top of the table-leg, and flat bar E, having perforation I at its lower end for the insertion ofscrew G, securing it to the leg, as and for the purpose shown and set forth.
2. The combination of the side rails, A, corner-piece A, secured to their inner surfaces, with the leg E, having bar F, provided with lip f, secured to its upper end, and fiat bar E, secured to the leg, spanning corner-piece A by means of screw G, as and for the purpose shown and set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereunto affixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
HENRY ROSE.
