TABLE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed July 24, 1908.
Patented Mar. 1t, 191W. Serial No. 445,223.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, JAMES B. BAUM, a citizen of the United States, residing at Grand Junction, in the county of Mesa and tdtate of Colorado, have invented new and useful Improvements in Tables, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in folding tables, and broadly and generally speaking it comprises legs, a frame, and a top.
One object of the invention is to provide a folding table of the above stated character wherein the top shall be removably secured to the frame by elements mounted upon the top and engaging in openings formed in the frame.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a folding table of the above stated character wherein the side and end rails of the frame are hingedly connected together to permit it to be compactly folded, the hinges entering recesses formed in the legs, the engagement between the hinges and legs being such as to secure the frame to the legs and to secure the frame in erected condition.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a folding table which shall be simple, durable and eflicient of construction, and which may be manufactured and sold at a comparatively low cost.
With the above and other objects in View the invention consists in the details of construction and in the arrangement and combination of parts to be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 is a side elevation of my improved table, Fig. 2 is a detail plan view of the underneath portion of the table top with the means applied thereto for securing the same to the table. Fig. 3 is a top plan of Fig. 1, with the top removed. Fig. 4 is a detail perspective view of Fig. 3. Fig. 5 is a plan view of the top securing means. Fig. 6 is a side View of Fig. 5. Fig. 7 is an edge view of the frame in folded position, and Fig. 8 is a detail perspective of one of the legs.
Referring moreparticularly to the drawing, 1 denotes the frame comprising end brace or rail 2 and side brace or rail 3 relatively spacing the legs 4. The braces are connected together by means of hinges 5, said hinges permitting the frame to be folded as shown in Fig. 7. The hinges are seated in the angular recesses 6 disposed in the top of the legs 4, for securing the frame thereto and erecting the table in an upright position. I provide a removable top 7 comprising a plurality of sections secured together by means of hinges 8 shown in dotted lines in Fig. 2 of the drawing. Disposed intermediate and adjacent the sides and ends thereof are securing members composed of two parts 9, and 10. The part 9 is offset and disposed at a parallel plane beneath the part 10 and formed integral therewith by means of a connecting member 11. The part 10 is provided with an aperture 12 for the reception of a thumb screw 13, adapted to rigidly secure the said part to the under neath part of the top adjacent and intermediate the sides and ends thereof. The free part 9 is so disposed, as above described, to permit the same to be inserted in the slots 14, for readily and quickly attaching or detaching the top from the frame.
Having thus fully described the invention what is claimed as new, is
1. A table including a top, top supporting rails, means connecting said rails to form a frame, and legs formed to receive the rail connectors to maintain said rails in topsupporting position.
2. A table including a top, top supporting rails, means connecting said rails to form a frame, legs formed to receive the rail connectors, said means being arranged to maintain the adjacent ends of the rails spaced when in frame forming position, whereby the acent ends of the rails will bear against a portion of the legs.
3. A table including a top, top supporting rails, hinges connecting said rails to form a frame, and legs formed with a recess to receive said hinges to maintain said rails in top supporting position.
4. A table comprising legs having recesses, side and end rails, hinges uniting the rails and located in the recesses of the legs, a top, and elements upon the top for engagement with the rails, said elements removably securing the top in position.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
