IMPROVEMENT IN SASH-LOCKS.

The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.

To all whom it 'ma/y concern Be it known that I, ROBERT R. BALL, of West Meriden, in the county of N ewrHaven, and State of Connecticut, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Sash-Locks and Supporters; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying draw ings, which are made a part of this specication, and in which- Figure l is a perspective View of my thumb-slide and its accessories, for the simultaneous retraction of the sash-bolt and supporting-tumbler.

Figure 2 is a front view of the same, applied to the lock.

Figure 3 is a side view thereof, applied to theV lock in position Within the Window-frame.

D represents a compound sash-lock;

F, its sash-supporting tumbler; and

G, its bolt for holding the sash down.

As the above partshave been fully described in a separate application, and may be, in construction, analogous to the parts described in Letters Patent granted to me August 18, 1868, on the application of Daniel P. Lacey, they need no specific description here.

-The object of my present improvement is to adapt my sash-locks for use with a thumb-slide, when this may be desired by the purchaser.v

For this purpose, I form, in both sides ofthe lock, slots d d, into which project the tangs k k of a slide,

K, guided kwithin a suitable socket, M, and operated -by a rod, L, which is formed with a suitable head, l,

to receive the pressure of the thumb.

When the slide is pressed in, the tangs k k engage with the tumbler F and bolt G, pressing them both back, and permitting the sash to be moved freely up or down.

When the slide is released, a spring, N, restores it to its outer position, and allows the tumbler F and bolt G to be pressed out by their springs.

The slide and its socket are inserted in a suitable mortise in the window-frame, and held by screws passing through the face-plate M', which may be cast in one piece with the socket M, or otherwise attached thereto.

Having thus described my invention,

What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Pat ent, is J The slide K k, L l, constructed as described, and adapted for use in combination with the slotted lock D d, tumbler F, and bolt G, in the manner and for the purpose explained.
