Description

@animi ien?- i time Patenti @the JOSEPH C. MILLER, OF LANCASTER, OHIO.'
Letters Patent No. 89,162, dated .April 20, 1869.
IMPROVED IRONING-BOARD.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, JOSEPH G. MILLER, of Lancaster, in the county of Fairfield, and State of Ohio, have invented a new and improved Ironing-Board; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a side view of my board, extended ready for use.
Figure 2 is an under side view of the same, folded up for storage.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
My invention has for its objectY to furnish an imirnproved ironingproved ironing-board which shall be so constructed and arranged that when not required for use it may be folded up and laid aside; and
It consists in the ironing-board constructed and ranged as hereinafter more fully described.
A is the main body of the board, a convenient size for which is six and a half feet long, fourtcen inches wide at the head, ten inches wide at the foot, and one and a half inch thick.
The board should be covered in the ordinary manner.
Upon the under side of the foot of the board is secured a cross or stop-bar, B, and a bracket, C, to receive support the head of the table.
The frame E, when not in use, is turned up along the under side of the board A, and secured in place by abntton, F.
To the edge of the head end of the board Ais swivelled a block, G, to which is hinged the bosom-boardl H The block G ismade thicker than the board A, so that, when it is swung around, and the bosom-board turned down into a horizontal position, it may be a little above the board A, whereits forward end is supported by short pins or feet attached to it, as shown in fin. 1.
The block G is secured in positionwhen the board H is turned up into position to be used, by the buttons I, as shown in fig. 1. l
When not required for use the block is swung half around, and the board H is turned down beneath the board A, as shown in iig. 2, where it is secured in place i by the button J, pivoted to the block, or cleat K, to raise it to a suitable height.
By this construction and arrangement a convenient ironing-board is produced, which may be readily adjusted for ironing shirt-bosoms or for ordinary/ironing,
and when not required for use may be foldedup andset aside, requiring but little more space for storage than a plain board.
Having thus described my invention,
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
An improved ironing-board formed by the combina# tion ofthe covered board A, bar or stop B, bracket, set or clamping-screw D, hinged frame E, swivelled block G, and hinged bosom-board H, said parts being con st-ructed and arranged substantially as herein shown and described, and for the purposes set forth.
The above specification of my invention signed by me, this 23d day of February, 1869.
JOSEPH O. MILLER.
