LEVI RISLEY, OF BROOKVILLE, PENNSYLVANIA.
GLOTHES-FASTENER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 2, 1908.
Application filed December 30, 1907. Serial No. 408,565.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LEVI RIsLEY, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Brookville, in the county of Jefferson and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Clothes- Fasteners, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
This invention relates to a clothes fastener, particularly designed for retaining the clothes upon a bed.
The primary object of the invention is to provide a simple and inexpensive fastener that can be easily and quickly placed in engagement with a bed for retaining the clothes thereon.
Another object of this invention is to provide a fastener that can be easily manipulated for gripping bed clothes without injuring the same.
To this end, I have devised a clothes fastener particularly designed for iron bedsteads and cribs. v
As a fastener, my invention prevents the bed clothes from becoming disarranged, due to any restlessness on the part of the sleeper.
The invention will be presently described in detail and then specifically pointed out in the appended claims.
In the drawings forming a part of this specification, Figure 1 is a front elevation of the fastener in a closed position, Fig. 2 is a rear elevation of the same, Fig. 3 is a side elevation of the fastener, Fig. 4 a vertical sectional-view of the same artly in elevation, and Fig. 5 is a rear elevation of the fastener in an open position.
The fastener comprises a stationary member 1 having a gripping jaw 2 and a guide 3. The member 1 intermediate its ends is formed with a bearing 4 for a bolt 5, said bolt carrying a hook-shaped head 6 for engaging a To look the member 1 in engagement with the rod 7, a washer 8 and a nut 9 are placed upon the bolt 5 to firmly hold the hook-shaped head 6 thereof in engagement with the rod 7.
Revolubly mounted upon the bearing 40f the member 1 is an eccentric 10, said eccentric having a suitable operating handle 11.
The eccentric is retained upon the bearing 4 by the washer 8 and the nut 9.
In connection with the member 1 I use a movable member comprising a shank 12, a gripping jaw 13 and a strap 14, said strap embracing the eccentric 10, while the shank 12 extends through the guide 3.
It will be observed that by simply manipulating the handle 11, the gripping jaw 13 will be raised and lowered with relation to the stationary gripping jawZ, consequently when the fastener has been correctly positioned upon the rod 7, the fastener can be easily manipulated to grip the bed clothes adjacent to said rod.
It will of course be understood that numerous of these fasteners are used for retaining the clothes upon a bed.
Having now described my I claim as new, is
1. A bed clothes fastener embodying a sta tionary member, a gripping jaw carried thereby, a bearing carried by said member, a bolt extending through said bearing, and a hook shaped head carried by said bolt, an eccentric revolubly mounted upon said bearing, a handle carried by said eccentric, a movable member supported by said eccentric, and a gripping jaw carried by said member and adapted to operate in conjunction with the first mentioned gripping jaw.
2. A bed clothes fastener comprising a stainvention what tionary member, a gripping jaw carried thereby, a bearing carried by said member, an eccentric movably mounted upon said bearing, a movable member supported by said eccentric, a gripping jaw carried by said movable member, and means for operating said eccentrio.
3. The combination with a bed or gripping rod, of a stationary grip ing member, a bolt extending through said member, a hookshaped head carried by said bolt for engaging said rod, an eccentric movably carried by said stationary member, a movable gripping member supported from said eccentric, means for moving said eccentric, and means for retaining said bolt in said stationary member.
4. A bed clothes fastener comprising a stationary member having a gripping jaw,
means carried by said member for securing ping jaw thereof towards and away from the the same to a. bed, an eccentric revolublygripping jaw of the stationary member. 10 mounted on the stationary member and pro- In testimony Whereof I affix my signature Vided With a handle, and a movable gripping I in the presence of two Witnesses.
