Description

No. 887,126. PATENTED MAY 12, 1908.

TABLET HOLDER.
APPLICATION FILED MAY 27, 1907.

WILSON E. RHODES, OF OORRY, PENNSYLVANIA.
TABLET-HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed May 27, 1907.
Patented May 12, 1908.
Serial No. 375,827.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILSON E. RHODES, a citizen of the United States, residing at Corry, in the county of Erie and State of Pennsylvania, have invented new and useful Improvements in T ablet-IIolders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to tablet holders and consists in certain improvements in the construction thereof as will be hereinafter fully described and pointed out in the claims.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings as follows:
Figure 1 shows a plan view. Fig. 2, a side elevation of the same. Fig. 3, an end elevation.
1 marks the tablet platform; 2 a tablet thereon. The platform is preferably provided with rubber supports 3. It is also preferably finished by rounding the edges 4 so as to give it a neat appearance and to strengthen the plate. An upright 5 extends from the rear of the tablet holder and a projection 6 extends forwardly from this upright. The guide pins 7 extend from the projection 6 to the platform and are preferably secured by riveting. A clamp plate8 is slidingly mounted on the guide pins 7 and springs 9 are arranged on the guide pins between the plate 8 and the projections 6 and exert pressure on the clamping plate so as to hold the tablet in place on the platform. This construction permits of a long spring so that a tablet of considerable thickness may be readily insertedo In order to facilitate the insertion of the tablet, I prefer to provide the rear end of the platform and bottom of the upright with the slot 10, to permit the placing of the finger under the plate 8 and lifting it to insert the tablet. I prefer to supply the device with a bracket 11 for holding a calendar or similar .memorandum. The bracket is formed by two plates at each side of the upright. These plates have the lip 12 which is riveted to the projection 6 by means of the guide pins 7, the downwardly extending part 13, bottom 14 and front 15. A pin 16 is riveted to the upright 5 and extends through the downwardly extending part 13 and is riveted to the front 15. This pin not only supports the parts forming the bracket, but also forms a guide for the tablet which is inserted into the bracket from the top and prevents its slipping out of the bracket at the end.
I/Vhat I claim as new is:
1. In a tablet holder the combination of a platform on which the tablet may be placed; the upright 5 extending from the end of the platform having a projection 6; guide pins 7 extending from the platform to the projection, said pins being riveted to the platform and to the projection; a clamp plate 8 slidingly mounted on the guide pins; and the spring 9 on each guide pin between the plate 8 and rojection 6.
2. n a tablet holder the combination of a platform; an upright extending from the end of the platform; a clamp supported by the upright and arranged to engage a tablet on the platform, said platform and upright being provided with the slot 10 at the juncture of the platform and upright for the purpose described.
3. In a tablet holder the combination of a platform on which the tablet may be placed; the upright 5 extending from the end of the platform having a projection 6; guide pins 7 extending from the platform to the projection; a clamp plate 8 slidingly mounted on the guide pins the spring 9 on the guide pins between the plate 8 and projection 6; and a memorandum bracket supported by the projection 6, said brackets being secured to the projection by the riveting of the guide pins.
4. In a tablet holder the combination of a platform on which the tablet may be laced; the upright 5 extending from the enc of the platform having a projection 6; guide pins 7 extending from the platform to the projection; a clamp plate '8 slidingly mounted on the guide pins; the spring 9 on the guide pins between the plate 8 and projection 6; a memorandum bracket supported by the projection 6 comprising the rearward. extension 12 secured to the projection 6 the downwardly extending part 13; the bottom 14, front 15; and the pm 16 extending from the upright 5 through the downward part 13 and secured to the front 15.
5. In a tablet holder the combination of the platform; the upright 5 extending thereon; a clamp for securing the tablet on the I In testimony whereof I have hereunto set platform; the bracket supported by the up- I my hand in the presence of two subscribing right 5 and comprising the downwardly eX- witnesses. tending part 13, bottomll l, front 15 and the l/VILSON E. RHODES.
5 pin 16 extending from the upright through Witnesses:
the downward part 13 and secured to the CLARA PETTENGILL, front 15. R0131". J. OSBORNE.
