Description

GEORGE FRANCIS MOMANUS, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
COLLAR.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 5, 1908.
Application led November 19, 1907. Serial-No. 402,940.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE F. MoMANUs, a citizen of the United States, and a resident Oi New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented. certain new and usei'ul Improvements in Collars, of which the following is a speciiication.
My invention is an improvement in collars and consists in certain novel constructions and combination of parts hereinafter described and claimed.
Referringto the drawings forming a part hereof Figure 1 is a front view of my improvement with the tie in place. Fig. 2 is a similar View with the tie removed, and Fig. 3 is a section On the line 3-3 of Fig. 1.
The improvement is adapted for use in folded or turned down collars, which comprise a band ply A, and a fold ply B, the ends of the band ply being extended to form iiaps C, which are adapted to Over-lap in the usual manner. In each edge Of the ends of the band ply, I provide a horizontal slit D, the slits in the two ends being in alinement with each other when the collar is in place On the wearer. The tie E, encircles the band ply between the said band ply and the fold ply in the usual manner, the free ends projecting nd being folded into a bow as shown in ne of the free ends of the tie is passed up behind the other end as shown in Fig. 3, and -brought out through the slits D above mentioned. This end is now formed into a loO in the usual manner, and vthe other end is Oubled and drawn there through to form' the tie shown in Fi l. The vertical portion of the tie as wil be noticed in Fig. 1 is permitted to extend its full width not being pushed in a fold between the ends of the collar. By this arrangement, the tie is prevented from moving downwards, and is retained exactly horizontal since both ends are retained in position by the vertical portion of the tie. f
In the Ordinary fold collar, it is very diflicult to tie a bow tie, Without rumpling the vertical portion, and yet tight enough to retain the bow horizontal vand in proper position on the collar. With my improvement the tie can be tied loosely enough to prevent rumpling and the slits will retain the bow horizontal and in proper position on the collar.
I claim:
l. A collar comprising a' band ply and a fold ply, the fold ply having in each of its ends a longitudinal slit intermediate the upper and lower edge thereof, and in alinement with each other when the ends of the band ply are connected, such slits bein adapted to receivethe edges'of the vertioa fold of the tie, whereby to permit said fold tO extend its full width to prevent rumpling of said fold and to support the tie in horizontal position.
2. A fold collar provided in each end ofthe fold ply with a longitudinal slit intermediate the upper and lower edge, and in position to receive the edges of the vertical fold of a tie whereby to support the said tie in horizontal position.
GEORGE FRANCIS MOMANUS.
