To all whom, it may concern:

Be it known that I, GUY O. ODOR, a citizen. of the United States, residingat Lima, in the county of Allen and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bill-Files, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.

My invention relates to improvements in bill files.

The object of my invention is to provide a file of this character, in which the hook pin can be readily folded fiat upon the base to form a more compact article for shipment, and in which the pin can be readily locked in its operative position to prevent it from having any twisting movement.

Another object of my invention is to provide a more simple, cheap and effective file of this character.

Referring now to the drawings, 1 represents the base which is preferably made of heavy card board, but may be made of metal, wood, or any other desired material, and may be of any desired shape. Secured to the back of said base adjacent its lower end are metal plates 2 and 2 which, as shown, are of an oblong form, and are riveted or stapled to the base 1, as indicated at 3 and 4, one upon the other, and the staples or rivets, as shown are at the center of the plates from the top to bottom, and adjacent the side edges for making the upper and lower edges of the outer plate 2 slightly flexible, as will be hereinafter more fully described. The outer plate 2 is provided with a central raised portion 5 which extends from the upper end to a point adjacent the lower end. Said raised portion is of a flat contour and terminates at its lower end into a reduced raised portion 6 which is of a size to snugly fit the hook.

The hook 7, as shown, consists of an elongated shank portion 8 which has its upper portion crimped, as indicated at 9, said crimps extending in a line at right angles to the hook 7, so that when the hook is in its operative position theorimps lie flat upon the plates 2 and the raised portion 5 is of such a width as to allow the crimps to pass within the same, and when the hook is drawn down into the raised portion the hook is locked against any twisting movement. The lower reduced raised portion of the plate limits the downward movement of the hook, and all pressure or strain being in a doWnward direction, the hook is positively locked in its operative position. The inner plate 2 forms a backing for the hook and prevents wear upon the base, and also prevents any lateral movement of the hook within the raised portion 5 of the plate 2.

When it is desiredto fold the hook the same is forced upward until the crimped portion has passed out of the raised portion of the plate, and the hook can be turned so that it will lie fiat upon the base and thus form a compact, simple, cheap and effective file of this character.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:

1. The combination with a base, of a plate secured to the back thereof, and having a fiat raised central portion at its upper end, and terminating in a reduced round raised portion extending to the lower end, and a hook having'its shank between the plate and base within the raised portion, and said shank having at its upper end a crimped portion, the crimps of which enter at right angles to the hook and adapted to enter the flat raised portion of the plate.

2. The combination with a base, of a plate secured to the back side thereof, and having a flat raised central portion at its upper end, and terminating in a reduced round raised portion extendingto the lower end of the plate, and a hook extending around the lower edge of the base and having its shank between the base and within the raised portions, and said shank having at its upper end a crimped portion, the crimps of which extend at right angles to the hook portion, and adapted to enter the flat raised portion of the plate when the hook is extended at right angles to the base, and around the contracted raised portion limiting the downward movement of the shank whereby the shank is locked against oscillating movement.
