Patented March 24, 1908 Application filed. March 27, 1907. Serial No. 364,845.
gre se or fat which is beneficial to the human system, and the primary object of the resent invention is to produce as an article 0 manufacture, a cloth of a novel character, wherein the, wool or other animal fiber constitutes the facing thereof, this fiber having the natural wobl grease or animal fat still'incorporated thdreiinand being soft and pliable, so that it can be worn against the skin, andwhlle imparting its .medicinal roperties, will not chafe or otherwise imuriously affect the The referred embodiment of the invenin s, wherein:-- 'i figure 1 is a rear view of a iece of cloth constructed inaccordance witi the present Fig. 2 is a face view of the same. Fi 3 is a sectional view therethrough.
imilar reference numerals designate corresponding parts in all the figures of the drawings.
In the embodiment illustrated, the cloth consists of a backing 4 of open mesh woven fabric, and a facing 5 comprising a sheet or bat of thoroughly intermingled fiber having the natural animal fat or grease therein. This facing is-laid flat against the backing, as will be, clear by reference to Fig. 3. Intersecting lines 6 of stitching are passed through andthrough both the facing and backing, and secure the sheet or bat of fiber to and fiat against the woven fabric backing, These lines of stitching thus serve to hold the parts together, leaving th.eintermingled fiber exposed so that it will come into contact with theskin and impart the medicinal properretained therein and spread out in a flat laye ties of the grease contained therein to the body. The said lines of stitching are close enough together so that the cloth may be cut in any direction, and the fiber will still be effectively retained to the edge of the cut. Moreover it will be evident that by having the facing in a fiat layer against the backing, the two parts will pass readily through a sew ing machine not only when said parts are se cured together, but when the cloth is made up into garments.
From the foregoing, it is-th'ought that the construction, operation, and many advantages of the herein described invention, will be a parent to those skilled in the art, without fiirther description, and it will be understood that various changes in the size, shape, proportion, and minor details of construction, may be resorted to without departing from the s irit or sacrificing any of the aCivantages o the invention. 7 Having thus fully described my invention, What I claim as new, and desire to secure Letters Patent, is As an article of manufacture, a cloth hav-' ing medicinal properties and consistin of 1a backing of open mesh woven fabric,'a acirig comprising a sheet or bat of thoroughly inte mingled wool having the natural animal fa against one side of the backing, in order .t permit both* to be passed through a s'ewin machine and intersecting lines of stitchin passing throu'ghboth the facing and backin and'securing the sheet or hat of fiber to. an against the woven fabric, leavin the 'oute face of the sheet or bat substantia ly flat an exposed so .as to'come in direct contact wit] the skin of the wearer, said sheet or bat lyin flat against the backing between the lines o stitching and covering the open meshes ii the fabrlc.
In. testimony, that I claim the foregoing as my own, I have hereto aflixed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
