Description

YONKEY L RAwsoNi- Fence. A No. 38,252. Patented March' 23; 1869.
JOHN o, A. YoUKEY, AND FRANCIS M. .RA'WsoN or FRANKFoR'r,
1ND1ANA.
- Lette/rs .Patent No. 88,'252, lla-ted March 23, 1869.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the lame.
To all-whom it ma/y conce/rn Be it known thatwe, JOHN Q. A. YOUKEY and FRAN- CIS M. RAWSON, of Frankfort, in the county of Clinton, and State of Indiana, have invented a new and improved 'Portable and Self-Supporting Fence; and we do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, ,and exact description thereof, reference being had tothe accompanying drawings,`and to the letters of reference mark'ed thereon.
A is a bevelled post, the bevel corresponding exactly with the angle of the worm of the fence, the boards beingalso bevelled, so as to rest firmly against the opposite panel, forming a perfect brace.
B is a dovetail, attached to post A by a bolt, pin, or nails.
D D are gains, cutlin the top boards, so as to oorrespond with` the angle of the fence.
In placing the fence in its proper position, put the gains D I) together, then raise the opposite end of the panel, and bring the dovetail B to the mortise in post O. The panel is then perfect.
In a fence, thus constructed, each panel is complete of itself, and, While the fence cannot be thrown down by stock, or even by Winds, or storms, unless the whole of the fence is thrown over at the same time, it can be taken down with less labor than any other fence now in use, and is conveniently transported in panels.
It is evident that the gains D D may be omitted, and the panels be united together with dovetails at the top and bottom 'of the post. without departing from the spirit of our invention.
What we claim as our invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-l A portable self-supporting fence, composed of ppsts A C, dovetail B, gains D D, and planks E E, when constructed and arranged substantially as and for the purpose set forth,
JOHN Q. A. YOUKEY. FRANCIS M. RAWSON. Witnesses:
