To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, W'LLLIAM E. Dorm, a citizen of the United States, residing at T0- peka, in the county of Shawnee and State of ansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Combined Curtain- Pole and Shade-Holder, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in combined curtain-pole and shade holders, and one of my objects is to provide a simple and inexpensive device of this character which may be adjusted to accommodate curtain-poles and curtain-shades of different lengths.
A further object is to provide a device of this character which may be attached to a window-casing without marring the face or finish of the same.
Other objects will hereinafter appear and in order that the invention may be fully understood, reference will now be made to the accompanying drawing, in which,-
Figure 1 represents a front elevation of the device in position upon a window-casing. Fig. 2 is an end view of the same. Fig. 3 is a detail perspective view of the device.
In carrying out the invention, I employ two sections 1 and 2, slidingly engaging each other, so that the device may be extended or contracted to accommodate curtainpoles and shade-rollers of different lengths.
The inner ends of the sections are provided with loops 3, the loop of one section snugly embracing the other section, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, to hold the sections together. These loops also limit the outward adjustment of the sections by contacting with each other. The section are provided at their outer ends with bearings 4 for the reception of the trunnions of a shade-roller, one of said bearings having a rectangular opening 5, while the other has a circular opening 6 to accommodate the square and rectangular trunnions with which the customary shaderoller is provided. The sections are further provided with vertical resilient loops 7 terminating in semi-circular hooks 8 for the reception of a curtain-pole. Loops 8 are provided with dogs 9 adapted to engage the upper edge of a window-casing A, so as not to mar the face or finish of the same. These dogs form reliable means for sccu ring thedevice in position on the windowecasing, as it is obvious that the more weight placed there on, the more tightly will they engage the upper edge of the casing. The dogs are assisted in holding the device in position by the loops 7, which rest against the face of the window-casing and thus prevent the device from swinging backward beneath the weight imposed thereon. Dogs 9 are vertically ad justable on loops 7 so they may be raised or lowered the length of said loops, which latter, owing to their tendency to spread apart, engage the dogs with sullicient friction to hold them in any of their adjusted positions.
It will be noticed that eachsection con sists of a single piece of wire having the bearings and loops integral therewith, hence the device will be of simple but substantial construetion, and satisfactorily serve the purpose for which it is intended.
While I have shown and described my preferred form of the device, I, of course, reserve the right to make such changes as properly fall within the scope and spirit of the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is 1. A device of the character described, consisting of two sections adjustably engaging each other, a vertical resilient loop on each section, hooks on the loops for supporting a curtain-pole, and dogs adjustably and frictionally engaging said loops.
2. A device of the character described, consisting of two sections adjustably engaging each other, bearings at the ends of the sections for supporting a shade-roller, a vertical loop on each section adapted to engage the face of a window-casing, hooks on the loops for supporting a cu rtain-pole and dogs engaging said loops.
