WINDOW SHADE AND CURTAIN BRACKET..
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented sept. 26, 1905.
Application filed April 10,1905. Serial No. 254,853.
y To all whom it may concern:
provements in window curtain and shade' brackets, and especially refers to a detachable shade bracket which can be applied to the casing without defacing or injuring the same.
It is the object of my invention to produce a bracket which will not only suiiice to accommodate a curtain-pole, but also a pair of shaderolls anda rod for sash-curtains as well; further,'to produce this bracket in an inexpensive way, which will permit of it being manufactured and sold cheap and within the reach -of the class of people who would require adevice of this kind-namely, those who are living in rented houses and have occasion to remove the brackets when moving.
With the above andother minor objects in View my invention resides and consists in the novel construction and combination of parts shown upon the accompanying sheet of drawings, forming a part of this specification, upon which similar characters of reference denotey like or corresponding parts throughout the several figures, and of which- Figure l shows a front elevation of my improvedbracket complete as applied in use and supporting therein the ends of a a curtainpole and shade-rollers, which are represented as being broken off.` Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the bracket shown in Fig. l, the pole and rollers being omitted. Fig. Bis a slightlyenlarged perspective view of the bracket shown in Figs. 1 and 2, but having the sashcurtain extension omitted.
Referring in detail to the characters of reference marked upon the drawings, A indicates the upper portion of the bracket, which is formed of sheet metal containing an extension B,with apocket C for the reception of one end of a curtain-pole, as indicated by U. Extensions E and F are also provided for the support of the end of shade rollers V and W, which may be of any preferred construction. One of these extensions is shown as being longer than the other to insure a free operation of either curtain irrespective of the other, and which construction permits of the use of two curtains upon a window, if desiredas,
for instance, in a sick-room, where a temporary dark shade might be desirable in addition-to the regular light shade, which might be permanently installed. The metal of the upper end of the bracket is twisted, as at Gr, and contains twov inward extensions having deiiected engaging ends H,as indicated, for the engagement of the top edge of the windowcasing. The lower portion of the bracket is also twisted, as at I, having a divided end J, over which a sli'dable clamp K is mounted for the engagement of the under edge of the window-casing. Intermediate of the divided end J, I provide a clamping-lever L, which is pivoted to a stud O' and is provided with camfaces M and N at either end, one of said ends being longer than the other and each adapted to engage the under side of the clamp K in a way to tightly force the same up against the casing for the proper securement of the bracket. The dierence in the length of this vlever' from itsv pivot to its ends is designed to provide for different widths of casings, as will be obviously apparent. The said lever turns upon the pivot and would be oper- Vatedso that its cam-face would flrst engage the under side of the clamp and gradually force the same up into position until the rightangle'shoulder P of the lever registers with the under face of the clamp in a way to retain and support the same. In instances where sash-curtains would be required the same could be attached to the extension Q of this bracket, which extension is shown as formed of wire and attached to the pivotal screw O. It may obviously be formed of any desired length, and its lower portion Ris preferably turned at a right angle, with its end S pointed and deflected inward to engage a crack in the face of the casing in a way to not deface the same. Upon this horizontal portion R isa holder T, which I have preferably shown in the form of a pin 'to receive the end of a sash-rod, as indicated in dotted lines. In practice two of these brackets would be required to support a pole and shades. One bracket to be arranged on either side of the top of the casing.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, isc l. A window curtain and shade bracket,
comprising a sheet-metal body portion having IOO IIO
a slidable clamping-piece mounted upon said lower extension and a clamping-lever pivoted between said divided end having two cam-faceengaging ends each at a different distance from the pivotal center of the lever. s
2. A device ot` the kind described, the saine com prising a sheet-metal bracket having` supports for a curtain-poleand shade-rollers, the upper portion of the bracket being twisted turned in down and pointed to engage the top of the casing, the lower portion ofthe bracket also being' twisted and divided, a slidable clamp mounted upon said lower portion adapted to engage the under side ot' the casing, a lever pivoted intermediate of said divided portion having opposite cam-faces to engage the under side of the clamp.
3. A window curtain and shade bracket, comprising a sheet-metal bod7 portion having arms for the support of a curtain-pole and a shade-roller, an extension to engage the top of the window-casing, a divided lower end, a slidable clamping-piece mounted upon said lower end, and a clamping-lever pivoted in said divided end having two cam-face-engaging' ends each at a different distance from the pivotal center of the lever, and an extension attached to the divided end and containing a support thereon for the sash-curtain rod.
4. A window curtain and shade bracket, comprising' a sheet-metal body portion having arms for the support of a curtain-pole and shade-rollers, an extension to engage the top ot' the windowecasing, a divided lower end, a slidable clainl'iing-piece mounted upon said divided lower end, a clamping-lever piroted in said divided end having` two cani-tace-engaging ends each at a difierent distance troni the pivotal center o1 the lever, a pivotal screw upon which the lever is mounted. a depending; extension attached to said pivotal screw having its lower portion deliected crosswisc and its end pointed`v and disposed inward, and a sash-curtain-rod support mounted thereon.
