Be it known that I, GEORGE W. Doss, citizen of the United States, residing at Erick, in the county of Greer and State of Oklahoma, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Buckles, of which the following is a specification.

The present invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in cross line buckles and aims to provide a novel construction which will admit of the cross line being easily and quickly adjusted to any desired position upon the hand line.

The object of the invention is to design a simple and inexpensive buckle of this character which is of durable construction and can be readily applied to the lines or detached therefrom as may be required.

For a full description of the invention and the merits thereof and also to acquire a know 1- edge of the details of construction and the means forefl'ecting the result, reference is to be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, in which:

Figure 1 is a perspective view of a buckle constructed in accordance with the invention. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view through the same showing the lines applied thereto. Fig. 3 is a top plan view of the buckle.

Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description and indicated in all the views of the drawings by the same reference characters.

Referring to the drawings it will be observed that the buckle frame is shown as approximately rectan 'ular in shape and cornprises the longitudina ly disposed side pieces 1 connected at each end by a pair of spaced cross bars, the cross bars 2 joining the ex- 'tremities of the side pieces while the cross bars 3- are spaced from the cross bars 2. Mounted upon the said intermediate cross bars 3 are the oppositely facing swinging tongues 4 which engage the respective end cross bars 2 upon opposite sides of the frame. It will thus be apparent that a buckle portion is located at each end of the frame, one Of the buckle portions being designed to engage the hand line 5 while the opposite buckle portion engages the cross line 6. Keepers 7 are carried by intermediate portions of the side pieces land project laterally upon opposite sides of the buckle frame, the said keepers being designed to cooperate with the buckle members at opposite ends of the frame. Attention may be directed to the fact that the end portions of the two keepers at opposite sides of the frame are in alinement with each other and serve to reinforce the central portion of the side pieces 1 These keepers 7 also serve to engage the tongues 4 when the latter are swung outwardly for the purpose of adjusting one of the straps or positioning the same within the buckle. In the application of the buckle one of the straps is passed between each pair of the spaced end cross bars of the frame and is engaged by the corresponding tongue 4. The straps then extend along the buckle frame upon opposite sides thereof and pass through the kee ers 7. In the present instance the cross ine 6 is shown as having a sliding connection with the hand line 5 and for this purpose a loop 8 is loosely mounted upon the hand line and is detachably connected to the cross line by a snap fastener 9 of any approved construction, one of the 'members of the fastener being carried by the cross line while the opposite member is secured to the loop 8. It will thus be apparent that the two straps can accommodate themselves to any adjustment brought about through the medium of the buckle.

Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is:

1. The herein described buckle c0mpris ing a frame formed of side pieces 1 having the opposite ends thereof each connected by a pair of spaced

cross bars

2 and 3, and a swinging tongue 4 mounted upon the inner cross bar'3 of each pair and adapted to engage the outer cross bar 2, the buckle frame being also formed with a pair of keepers 7 projecting laterally upon opposite sides thereof, the said keepers being in alinement with each other and serving to reinforce the side pieces and to engage the tongues 4 when swung rearwardly.
