Be it known that I, OoRNELrA A. HOPKINS,

, a citizen ofthe United States, residing at curing a womans skirt.

New York city, county of New York, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Supporting Devices, fully described and represented in the following specification and the accompanying drawings, forming a part of the same.

This invention relates to an improved fastening or supporting device which shall be especial y ada ted for use in supporting or securing toget er parts of garments, but may also be used for supporting orsecuring other articles such as curtains and all kinds of dra ery.

e invention aims especially to provide a device of this kind in the use of which all necessity of sewing or previous preparation of the article on which it is used is avoided.

As a full understanding of the invention can best be given by a detailed description of a preferred form of fastening device constructed to embody the invention and preferred modifications thereof, such a descri tion will now be given in connection with t e accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a view showing one manner of using my improved fastening device for se- Figs. 2 and 3 show the two members of the preferred form of fastening device separated from each other.

Figs. 5 and 6 are views similar to Figs. 2 and 3 showing a modified form of fastening for securing the two parts together. Fig. 7 is an edge view of the part shown in Fig. 6. Figs. 8 and 9 are views similar to Figs. 2 and 3 showing still another form of fastening for securing the two arts together, and Fig. 10 is a cross-sectionail view of the two parts shown in Figs. 8 and 9 secured together.

Referring to the drawings, and first to Figs. 2, 3 and 4,. the fastening device comprises two plates A and B each of which is provided with a double pin 2. formed preferably of a single length of wire bent to the proper form and pivotally connected to one end of the plate, the end of the plate being for this purpose bent to form an eye 3. The opposite end of each plate is provided with keepers 4, formed referably by bendin lateral extensions of the plate first inward and then outward asshown best in Fig. 10.

The outward extending portion a of the keepers thus form guides which by deflectingthe points of the pins inward as they are the oints o the eepers. The plates are preferably cut away at either edge near the ends having the keepers, as shown, for convenience in manipulating the pins.

Each of the plates A and B is provided with one member of a device by which the plates are separably secured together. In

the preferred form shown in Figs. 2, 3 and 4,

this device consists of a ball and socket fastening, the ball or knob 5 being on one plate, as A, and the socket or opening 6 being in the other plate, B. The two members of the device for securing the plates together are preferably positioned near the ends of the plates as shown, thereby facilitating the operation'of securing the two plates together. The pins and keepers are preferably arranged oppositely on the two plates, that is, so that when the plates are secured together, the pins of one plate will extend in the direction opposite to that in which the pins of the other plate eXte'nd. This is a feature of importance, since the endwise strain of the garment or other article on each of'the parts of the fastening device will thus be in the same direction relatively to the pins.

In the form of the device shown in Figs. 5, 6 and 7 instead of the ball and socket fastening for securing the parts together, a knob and slot fastening is provided, the knob 10 being carried by one plate and a suitably shaped slot 11 formed in the other plate. As here shown, also, one of the plates, as B, is provided with a hook 12 intended for engaging the upper edge of a belt when the device is used on the band of a skirt.

In the construction shown in Figs. 8, 9 and 10, the plates are provided with a sliding catchin device formed by striking up portions of the bodies of the plates to form opposed and oppositely turned over edges 15 and 16 respectively for engaging each other %or holding the plates together, as shown in ig. 1Q.

It will be understood that other suitable devices may be employed for securing the two parts of myimproved fastening or supporting device together.

What I claim is:
