Description

N.FETERS. PHOTOLITHOGRAFHER. WASHINGTON D C JOSHUA K1DD`,OF New' YORK; N. Y.
I LettersPate-nt No. 87,682, dated Mol/rch 9, 1869;
MPROVED APPARATUS FOR CARBURETTING GAS.
.The Schedule referred to intheee Letters Patent and making part of the sama.
To all to whom 'it may conce/rn:
' Bc it known that I, JOSHUA KIDD, gas-engineer, of
74 Maiden Lane, in the city' and State of New York,
have invented a new and improved Apparatus for Garburetting Gas; and'I hereby declare that the following isa full, clear, and exact description of the construction andoperation of the same', reference being had to i lhasort'rpt'ionf of Drawing. Figure 1 'is asectional. elevation of my improved apparams; andA Figure 2 is a modification 'f the same. K isthe carbu1ettingvessel.
M is theiulet,'and N, the Outlet or burner. S is the heat-conductor, which also serves as a, Support for the reiector 11but the apparatus may 211501)@ used without reflector, if required.
R shows a metallic heat-intercepter, made -to ful-n on its centre upon the heat-conductor, so as to more or less close the two apertures 0 0, made in the re- Hector. Y l
By this means, the heat to the carburetter may be regulated to the greatest'nicety.
When no reflector is used, the heat is regulated by making the heat-conductor project more or less over the flame V, as required. l In the modication shown in sectional elevation at 2, the vessel is made larger at the bottom than at the top, and the heat-conductor S is attached to a circular metallic belt, T, made to it snugly around the carbnretting-vessel.
This metallic belt T is made to turn round and allow the heat-conductors to be adjusted over the llame in this modification.
The relector is shown reversed, and 'may either be used or dispensed with, as desired. The outlet and inlet is also reversed, and the gas travels as indicated by the direction of the' arrows.
Yis the 'oil-feed screw.
I claim, as new, the heat-conductor S, together with the arrangement of apparatus for carburetting gas, as described and set forth.
The above specification of my invention signed by me, this 28th day of November, 1868.
JOSHUA KIDD.

FRANC FERRARI.
