ARTHUR E. LYONS, OF LANSING, MICHIGAN, ASSIGNOR TO HUG-H LYONS AND COMPANY, OF LANSING, MICHIGAN, A CORPORATION OF MICHIGAN.
DISPLAY-CASE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 26, 1907'.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, A'a'rnUn E. Lyons, a citizen of the United States, residing at Lansing, in the county of lngham and State of Michigan, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Display-Cases, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my invention is to make a display case in which a full and perfect view of the contents can be had from either the front or the top as may be desired, and in which the contents of the case shall be readily accessible for examination or sale. I attain these objects by means of the construction shown in the accmnpanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is an elevation of the front of the case when open. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section of Fig. 1, the display tray being closed, and the manner of opening it indicated by dotted lines. Fig. 3 is a similar section to Fig. 2, but with the door in position for closing, the manner of closing being indicated by dotted lines. Fig. 4 is an elevation of a double case of the kind shown in Fig. 1, the left hand case being closed, the right hand. open. The tray in both cases is pushed in as far as possible.
In the drawings, 1 represents the outside of the case. In this slides a movable tray 2, having its front portion lower than the rear, as shown in Figs. 2 and 3, for convenience in examining or removing the contents of the 1 tray. This tray is closed at its rear end but open at'the front. The entire case is closed by a door 3 hinged along its upper edge to a frame 4, which slides on guides 5 in the upper part of the case. A stop 6 is located near the center of the case and on its upper side in such position that when drawn forward to the proper position for closing, as shown in Fig. 3, the rear bar 7 of the sliding frame i will engage with this stop and prevent further forward motion of the sliding frame.
In using my device the articles which it is desired to display are arranged in an attractive manner in the tray 2 and the door 3 is 1 closed to exclude the dust. This door is preferably made with an opening 8 in which may be placed glass 'so that the contents of the tray may be readily visible to anyone standing in front of the case. The top of the case may also, if desired, be formed of glass or it may be adapted to have other cases placed above it in the manner usually employed in sectional book-cases. hen it is desired to remove any of the contents the door 3 is raised to the position shown in Fig. 3 and is then pushed back into the position shown in. Fig. 2. The tray can then be drawn forward as shown in Fig. 2 to any desired extent for the purpose of examining or removing any of its contents. It will be readily seen that by leaving the sides of the tray lower at their anterior extremity and making the tray without any front, the contents are made much more readily accessible than if a drawer were employed instead of a tray.
1 claim as my invention:
A display case comprising a case having its front end open and having its top formed of glass to permit the observation of the interior thereof, an open frame comprising rel atively narrow side and end bars slidably se cured in guides secured to the side walls of the case and adjacent the top thereof, a metal strip extending forwardly from the rear wall of the case and terminating in a dowinvardly bent position adapted to engage with the rear cross bar of said open frame to limit its movement in the case, and a door comprising an open frame having a glass panel therein hinged to the forward end of said sliding frame and adapted to close the end of the case when in its lowered position. In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
