To all whom itt-may concern.-

Be it known that I, DAVID SHULER, a citizen of the United States, residing 'at New Dover, in the county of Union and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Irnprovement in Flour-Chests, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.

My invention relates to Hour-chests; and it has for its object to provide a device of this character which shall be cheap and simple in its construction, and strong and durable; to provide a Hour-chest with an inclined bottom, and with an improved construction of kneading-board, and lid or cover for closing said Hour-chest.

With these ends in view theinvention consists in the improved construction and combinations of parts hereinafter fully described, and pointed out in the claims.

In the drawings, Figure l is a perspective view ot' a flour-chest constructed in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 is a vertical transverse section of the same. Fig. 3 is a longitudinal vertical section, and Fig. 4 is a sides of the chest, showing the arrangement of the guide-pins and the stoppin or lug.

In the accompanying drawings,in which like letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures,A represents the frame of the chest, which is divided into two compartments, B B', by means of an inclined or slanting partition-wall, D, said wall inclining downwardly from the front of the frame to the rear thereof.

Hinged doorsV t are provided on the lower thereto, and on the side walls of said compartment B are provided holes or openings, which are covered bya gauze or wire netting.

The sides of the frame A are cut off diagthe Vchest is open at its front side to a point on a horizontal line with the lower ends of the. inclined portions of the sides.

C represents a kneading-board having the grooves or channels d upon its sides, which grooves or channels are adapted to receive rIhe kneading-board C is provided on its under side,at or near the rear corners thereof, with cleats f, which, when the kneadiugboard is pulled outwardly, limit its movement farther than a point necessary to allow the ready manipulation of the material thereon.

Stop pins or lugs gare also provided on the inner sides of the y upper compartment, B, which pins or lugs are adapted to hold the inner end of the board against upward movement by bearing upon the upper rear ends of the same.

If desired, the said kneading-board may be removed or withdrawn, so that the pins on t-he sides of compartment B will be removed from engagement with the grooves or channels on the kneading-board, when the same may be raised to almost aperpendicular position, and then lowered into the compartment B and used as a scoop to push the flour to the rear end of the same,so that it may be readily removed when desired.

It' desired, I might combine with the flourchest a cupboard having shelves h, doors z', and drawers 7c. In this case the sides of the cupboard would be slightly extended and lap over the sides of the'flourchest,and be secured thereto by screws or equivalent fastening.

F represents a lid or cover, which,when access is to be had to the kneading-board, rests upon the upper or top edges of the sides and cover having pins t" at its rear corners,on the under side thereof. The pins on the under side of the said lid or cover F are adapted whenthe lid is drawn outward to strike or bear against stops m,located on the inner sides of the side walls o f the frame, which prevent its further outwardmovement, and allow it to be lowered to cover the space between the front end of thekneading-boardand the lower end of the cupboard.

By providing the Hour-chest with an inclined bottom, whenit is desired to remove the flour, the scoop may be more easily operated than if a plain bottom were employed.

The chest before described is simple and cheap in its construction, strong and durable, and affords convenient and ready means for sides of the upper compartment, B.
