To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, HOWARD RICHISSIN, a citizen oi the United States, residing at Akron, in the county of Summit and State of Ohio, have invented a new and Useful Improvement in Envelop-Sealers, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to a device for sealing envelops and the object of the invention is a device of this kind which will combine in simple and handy form a reservoir, a sponge holder having communication with said reservoir, and a roller.

The invention consists of the novel features of construction hereinafter fully described, pointed out in the claims and shown in the accompanying drawings, in which,

Figure 1 is a perspective view of the device. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section through the device. Fig. 3 is a side elevation showing the device inverted for use as a sealer.

In these drawings A represents a cylindrical reservoir which contains water and which also serves as a handle by means of which the device can be easily manipulated as a moistening device and also as a sealer.

The opened end portion of the reservoir is crimped as shown at A, and over this crimped end fits a cap B, which is perforated as shown at B. The cap B, carries a sponge holder G, which is preferably arranged at a slight angle to the cap and to the axis of the handle portion or reservoir A.

Over the sponge holder C fits a collar D adapted to slide upon the holder O and the collar D carries upon its front upper edge an off-set, sector-shaped tongue D which can be used for opening envelops.

Within the sponge holder 0, I placea sponge E or if desired, felt or some other material may be substituted for sponge. In the collar D, I place also a piece of sponge F, which projects from the outer end of the collar and by adjusting the collar upon the holder 0, the two sponges are brought into contact. Water from the reservoir flows through the opening B, and is taken up by the sponge E, and supplied therefrom to the sponge F.

By providing two sponges it is unnecessary when a sponge has become'soiled or gummy to remove the entire sponge but is only necessary to replace the small piece of sponge F, carried by the collar D. As the collar is easily removable from the holder 0, the substitutionof a new piece of sponge is a matter of no difficulty.

Lugs G project from the end of the holder 0 opposite the collar D, and between these lugs is journaled a roller 0 I When the envelops have been moistened and the flaps turned down the sealing operation can be easily completed by simply inverting the device as shown in Fig. 3 and running the roller over the outer face of the flap.

Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent,

1. A reservoir, a 'cap having a perforation forming one end of the reservoirga holder carried by the cap. a collar sliding upon the holder, an absorbent material carried by the holder, and a piece of absorbent material carried by the collar.

2. A device of the kind described comprising a cylindrical reservoir, a cap carried thereby, a holder carried by the cap, and at an angle thereto, a piece of absorbent material arranged in said holder, a collar fitting upon the holder, a piece of absorbent material carried by said collar, the two pieces of absorbent material being brought to gether by adjustment of the collar upon the holder.

3. A device of the kind described comprising a cylin drical holder, a perforated cap mounted thereon, a sponge holder carried by the cap, lugs formed on said holder, a roller journaled in said lugs, and a sponge holding collar slidable upon the holder.

4. A device of the kind described comprising a cylindrical handle forming a reservoir, said handle being open at one end and crimped, a perforated cap fitting upon said crimped portion, a sponge holder carried by said cap, an adjustable sponge holding collar carried by the holder, and a roller carried by said holder.

5. A device of the kind described comprising a hollow cylindrical handle forming a reservoir, 3. cap closing one end of said handle, said cap being perforated, a sponge holder carried by the cap, a roller mounted upon the holder a collar slidable upon the holder and adapted to contain an absorbent material to be brought into contact with a sponge carried by the holder, and an offset tongue carried by an end of the collar.
