To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, HARRY KUGELMAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Portsmouth, in the county of Scioto and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Envelop-Sealing Devices, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.

This invention relates to an improved envelop sealing device and has for its primary object to provide a very simple, serviceable and convenient means whereby envelops may be easily and quickly sealed.

The invention has for an additional object to provide a felt moistcning strip, a holder therefor having a reservoir containing an absorbent material whereby moisture may be supplied to the felt strip, and a sealing roller operatively mounted upon one side of the holder for said strip.

It is a further general object of the invention to improve and simplify the construction of devices of the above character, whereby the same may be produced at comparatively small manufacturing cost.

With the above and other objects in view, my invention consists in the novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts to he hereinafter more fully described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which,

Referring in detail to the drawing, 5 designates an elongated rectangular holder upon one side of which a tubular handle 6 is integrally formed. The opposite side of this holder is open to receive the felt moistcning strip 7. One edge of this strip projects outwardly beyond the open side of the holder and is preferably formed with a convex surface. Upon the opposite closed end of the holder 5, laterally projecting, apertured lugs or ears 8 are formed. and in these apertured lugs trunnions on the ends of a Specification of Letters Patent.

The tubular handle 6 is adapted to contain raw cotton or felt indicated at 11, and the openend of this handle is closed by means of a suitable cap 12. Water is poured into the hollow tubular handle to thoroughly saturate the felt or cotton therein and the felt strip 7 of the holder 5.

From reference to Figs. 2 and 3 of the drawing, the manner of using my improved envelop moistener may be clearly and fully understood. The envelop is placed upon a desk pad or blotter with the gummed side of the flap up and the convex edge of the felt strip 7 then moved over the gummed surface so as to moisten the same. The operator then simply throws the handle over and raises the felt strip from engagement with the envelop flap so thatthe roller 9 will then bear on the envelop. The movement of the device is reversed after folding over or closing the envelop flap so that pressure will he applied to the outer face of the flap and the same thus securely sealed to the body of the envelop. It will, of course, be understood that in the moistcning of the flap, the roller is in an elevated position out of contact with the envelop, while in the operation of the roller the felt moistcning strip is disposed out of contact with the envelop.

From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, the construction, manner of use and several advantages of the invention will be clearly and fully understood. It will be seen that I have produced a very simple and serviceable envelop sealing device which may be manufactured at comparatively small cost. The tubular handle can, of course, be made in any desired capacity so that the same need be replenished with water only at infrequent intervals.

While I have shown and described the preferred construction and arrangement of the several features, it is apparent that the device is susceptible of considerable modification therein and I, therefore, reserve the privilege of adopting all such legitimate changes as may be fairly embodied within the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.
