To all whont it may concern:

Be it known that I, FREDERICK M. MUN- ROE, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Mucilage- Bottles, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to mucilage bottles or holders and the invention consists, mainly, of an absorbent support or cushion for the mucilage-brush held in a cage in the reservoir, the absorbent support or cushion extending into the reservoir and protruding above the same into a neck or well extending above the support or cushion, whereby the mucilage is fed to the brush by capillary attraction and the amount so fed to the brush regulated without flooding or excess and without the necessity of wiping any excess off from the brush before using, and whereby evaporation and thickening of the mucilage are retarded. I

The invention also consists in the construction, arrangement, and combination of parts, all ashereinafter described and claimed.

In the accompanying drawings, to which reference is made and which form a part of thisspecification, Figure 1 is an elevation of my new mucilage-holder. Fig. 2 is a sectional elevation of the same. Fig. 3 is an elevation of the sponge-holder and neck removed, and Fig. 4 is an elevation of the stopper and brush removed.

In the drawings, 2 designates the body of the mucilage bottle or holder. In or upon the neck 3 of the bottle is supported a cage 4, in which is placed a cushion or body 5 of suitable material to elevate the mucila e in the cage to a higher level than that o the mucilage contained in the body of the bottle. The body 5 is adapted to be depressed and after depression will return to its normal level and is, by preference, composed of sponge or other yielding, bibulous, or absorbent material. The cage is formed with one or more openings (preferably perforations) 6 to allow ingress of mucilage to the material 5. Above the openings or perforations the cage is, by

preference, made continuous, as shown at 7, so

as to form a neck, well, or guide and so that the material 5 and said continuous portion will exclude the outside air from the material in the body of the bottle, and thus retard evaporation. The cage is, by preference, eggshaped and closed at the bottom to support the material 5 against pressure upon the top, thus allowing the top to be depressed by the brush 14, so that on its return to its normal level it will elevate some of the mucilage up within the cage. A collar 8 is applied to the neck 3 of the bottle, and the cage 4 is, by preference, connected to the collar, so that by re moving the collar the cage and its contents will be removed at the same time; but I do not limit myself to this I arrangement. As here shown, the collar 8 is formed with an offset 9 and flange 10, and by preference the upper end of the cage is formed with an offset 12, which rests upon the top of the neck of the bottle, and also with a flange 13, which fits in the flange 10, and is locked therein by a bead 14, as shown clearly in Fig. 1. The brush 14 is held in a follower or closure 15, which is adapted to be moved by the brush up and down in the collar 8. In this way the brush may always rest upon the material 5. The follower or closure 15 is, by preference, meniscus-shaped on cross-section, forming a cavity 16, in order that the handle 17 of the brush may be of comparatively short length. The bristles of the brush are held in a tube 18, which is inserted in a hole 19 in the center of the follower or closure 15. The handle 17 is inserted snugly in the upper end of said tube, but can be removed and replaced at pleasure.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. In a mucilage bottle or holder, the combination with a bibulous or absorbent cushion, and a cage for the cushion, of a mucilagereservoir located below the cushion, said cushion extending into said reservoir and protruding above the same, and a neck or well extending above the cushion so that the cushion supports the brush in said neck or Well and feeds the mucilage to the brush by capillary attraction without excess or flooding, substantially as described.

2. In a mucilage bottle or holder, the combination with a bibulous or absorbent cushion and a cage for the cushion, of a mucilage reservoir located below said cushion, said cushion extending into said reservoir and protruding above the same, a neck or well extending above said cushion, and a vertically-movable brush and closure projecting into said neck or well and supported on said cushion, whereby the mucilage is fed to the brush by capillary attraction without flooding or excess and whereby the amount of mucilage taken up by the brush can be regu lated Without the necessity of wiping off any excess, substantially as described.

3. In a mucilage bottle or holder, a mudlage-reservoir, a cushion of bibulous or absorbent material, a perforated cage in which said cushion is held, a neck or well which eX- tends above the said cushion and an offset attached to said ca e to support it in the reservoir, substantia ly as described.

4. In a mucila e bottle or holder, a neck, a closure having a emispherical lower surface and adapted to move up and down and Wabble in said neck and a brush and handle held by said closure, substantially as described.
