RAZOR-STROP.

To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, JOHN D. then, a citizen of the United States, residing at Little Valley, in the county of Cattaraugus and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Razor-Strops; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same. 1

This invention relates to razor strops, and has for an object to provide a strop embodying new and improved features of convenience.

A further object of the invention is to provide a razor strop adapted to be folded and embodying new and improved means for maintaining the strop in operative position.

A further object of the invention is to provide a razor strop adapted to be folded and embodying new and improved means for holding the strop in folded condition.

A further object of the invention is to provide a razor strop having two stropping surfaces arranged to be folded together for storage and transportation and with improved means for holding the strop in such folded position with means for folding in the opposite direction and with improved means for holding in such position for stropping purposes.

With these and other objects in view, the invention comprises certain other novel constructions, combinations and arrangements of parts, as will be hereinafter fully described and claimed.

In the drawings :-Figure 1 is a perspective view of the improved razor strop folded in condition for storage and transportation. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the improved razor strop folded in condition for stropping. Fig. 2 is a view in elevation of the stropping side of the strop extended. Fig. 4 is a fragmentary side elevation of the outer or cover side of one member of the strop with the handle portion of the other member showing the fastening means in plan.

Like characters of reference designate corresponding parts throughout the several views.

The razor strop forming the subject-matter of this application comprises two sections 10 and 11 hinged together as at 12 by any approved flexible hinge member which may be a continuation of one of the stropping members 10 or 11 or otherwise. The stropping members 10 and 11 are of any approved form as plain straps or straps double in thickness and stitched or otherwise secured together and with or without stiffening or cushioning material disposed between the two straps forming the stropping member. As shown in the illustration the stropping members 10 and 11 are preferably provided with stropping faces 13 and 14 preferably of dissimilarly finished leather straps and secured to back or cover portions 15 and 16 in any approved manner.

One of the members, as 10, is continued to form a handle member 17, while the extremity of the opposite member, as 11, is provided with an elongated loop 18 proportioned to permit the passage of the handle 17 therethrough as shown particularly in Fig. 2. The handle member is provided with one member 19 of a fastening while the opposite member 20 of the fastening is secured upon the back or outer member of the opposite stropping section 11 as shown particularly in Fig. 4. Upon the flexible hinge portion 12 is disposed a loop 21 having a ring or similar device 22 connected therewith and by means of which the strop, when in operative position, as shown in Fig. 2, is secured upon a hook or nail for use.

When the strop is not in use and is to be stored or transported the handle 17 is folded over the member 11 with the loop 18 preferably embracing said handle 17 and the fastening member comprising the sections 19 and 20 secured together so that the handle portion is folded about the end of the section 11 and secured in such folded position as shown inFigJ 1.

When the strop is to be used the handle portion 17 is disconnected from the section 11 and the strop extended as shown in Fig. 3 and then folded in the opposite direction as shown in Fig. 2 with the handle portion 17 inserted through the loop 18 and whereby the stropping portions are held in operative and intimate relation while hung upon any convenient hook, nail or similar device by means of the ring 22.

It will thus be seen that for storage and transportation purposes the stropping surfaces 13 and 14 are folded inwardly and protected from abrasion or marring by contact with other articles while the outer surfaces, as shown in Figs. 1 and 4, are of such material as to withstand such contact. When desired for use the strop is quickly and readily folded in the opposite direction and the stropping surfaces are disposed upon the outer face of the device and by reason of having been folded are presented in a clean and operative condition.

What I claim is:

1. In a razor strop, stropping members, a hinge member interposed between the stropping members, attaching means carried by the hinge member, a handle carried by one stropping member, and means carried by the other stropping member for separable engagement with the ban dle.

2. A razor comprising stropping members, a hinge member connecting the stropping members together, a handle carried by one of the stropping members at the end opposite the hinge, means carried by the other stropping member for separable engagement with the handle, and attaching means carried by the handle member.

3. A razor strop comprising stl'opping members having each a stropping face upon one side, and a covering surface upon the other side, a hinge connecting the stropping members, a loop carried by one of the stropping members at the end opposite the hinge, a handle carried by the other stropping member at the end opposite the hinge and pro portioned to be inserted through the loop, a fastening device comprising two members, one member carried by the handle and the other member carried by the covering surface, and a ring carried by the hinge for attaching the strop to an object.
