SIGMUND FEUST, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
STATJIONARY WASHTUB Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 20, 1907.
Application filed January 15,1906. Serial No. 296,117.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SIGMUND Fnusr, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the borough of the Bronx, in the city of New York, county of New York, and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Stationary Washtubs.
My invention relates to stationary wash tubs which are convertible into bath tubs.
The object of my invention is to supply a stationary wash tub made with two or more compartments, which can be used for a bath tub by moving the partition or partitions which divide the compartments so as to enable the space in the tub to be used for bathing purposes. I accomplish this object by constructing the tub in the manner hereinafter described.
Referring to the drawings Figure l is a plan view of my" improved tub when used as a bath tub; Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1; Fig. 3 is a cross section on the line 3-3 of Fig. 1; and Fig. 4 is an enlarged section on the line 4-4 of Fig. 3.
In the drawings like letters indicate like parts.
A is the body of the tub and B the partition.
0 and C are the water supply pipes with their faucets c and 0 attached.
D and D are the drains covering the waste pipes E and E.
B, the partition, is composed of the flat portion a, the surrounding rim b, the inflatable hose or packing d and its valve for inflation e; the hinges G, G of which the straps are f and f, the knuckles are g and g,; the pins are h and h, and the vertical lugs are k and k.
H is the front or breast board of the tub, I is the back and .l the recess formed in said back.
K is a vertical projection cast or constructed upon the back 1. Shallow channels made in the breast board H, across the bottom and on the vertical projection K are indicated respectively by m, n, and 0 and the cove made in one end of the tub, by p.
L and L are covers for the compartments of the tub.
The hinges G and G are constructed with straps f and f whose knuckles are pivoted by the hinge pins h and h. These straps f and f extend around the packing and are flattened at the ends where they are secured, as shown in the drawing, to the partition by nuts and bolts.
It will be observed that the knuckle g of the strap f is placed below the lug k and the knuckle g of the strap f is placed above the lug k. This is to hold securely in place the partition, B, down upon the channel a.
The packing should be inflated and when it is desired to use the tub for washing purposes the partition should be swung around until the packing rests in the channeled grooves m, 'n and 0 and when it is desired to use the tub for bathing the partition should be swung into the recess in the back of the tub and the outer angle of its inflated packing caught into the cove p.
.Should the packing lose its inflation it can easily be reinflated by means of'the valve e. The packing is preferably inflated with I do not broadly claim a Wash tub with a removable partition but I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. A stationary wash tub comprising a bottom, endpieces, a front board, and a back having formed therein a recess, a vertical projection attached to the back and extending slightly over the recess formed therein, cliannels in the same vertical plane formed in said front board, bottom and vertical projection, a fiat partition having an extended rim on its sides and bottom, apacking secured to said rim and adapted to be seated in the said channels, and means in the recess and attached to the back adjacent the vertical projection for pivotally supporting the partition whereby the same may be swung around the vertical projection and at right angles to the front or back and seated in the channels or into the recess of the back of the tub.
2. A stationary wash tub comprising a bottom, end pieces, a front board, and a back having formed therein a recess, a vertical projection attached to the back and extending slightly over the recess formed therein, channels in the same vertical plane formed in said front board, bottom and vertical projection, a fiat partition having an extended rim on its perimeter, an inflatable packing secured to said rim and adapted to be seated in the said channels, pins in the recess attached to the back adjacent to the vertical projection, curved straps attached to the partition and pivotally mounted on said pins whereby the said partition may be swung around the vertical projection and at right angles to the front or back and seated in the channels or into the recess of the back of the tub.
