'which embodies all of the essentials for the making of a hasty toilet by the traveler, including means for conveniently polishing shoes, and generally speaking, an outfit which may be carried about readily without taking up much space and permitting the user to readily have access to any articles which comprise a part of the said outfit.

For a full understanding of the invention and the merits thereof and also to acquire a knowledge of the details of construction of the means for effecting the result, reference is to be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, in which:

Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description and indicated in all the views of the drawings by the same reference characters.

Specifically describing the invention the numeral 1 indicates a hollow body, box or small cabinet at the bottom of which is arranged a clothes brush 2, the top or lid 3 of the box or cabinet 1 being removable in order to admit of ready access to the interior th'ereof. Secured to one end of the box 1, is a plate 4, the upper end of which is provided with an aperture to receive a pin 5 projecting from an end of the top or lid 3. At the opposite end of the top or lid 3 is secured a plate 6 having a seat or recess 7 therein to receive the lateral extension 8 of a lock member 9 which is vertically arranged and rotatably secured to the end of the box 1 opposite that at which the plate 4 is disposed. The parts 4, 5, 6 and 9 comprise the means for securing the lid or top 3 of the box 1 to the latter. Said top or lid 3 has suitable handles 10 upon its upper side adapted to be turned down flat against the same so as to be out of the way when out of use and whenever it is desired to remove the top or lid 3 it is only necessary to turn the lock member 9 so that the extension 8 projects outwardly away from the adjacent end of the lid 3, and disengaged from the plate 6, whereupon the lid 3 may be grasped and by endwise movement, its pin 5 disengaged from the plate 4. a

To the under side of the top or lid 3 is applied a polisher 11 for shoes and said polisher comprises a body of soft or compressible material such as hair or the like covered by a cloth covering which is designed for direct contact with the shoes when polishing the same. The form of the polisher 11 is advantageous for reasons which will appear more fully hereinafter.

The box or cabinet comprised by the hollow body 1 is adapted to contain several articles incidental to the operation of shoe polishing and may also contain toilet articles. For instance, within the box 1 will be disposed, a dauber 12 for daubing blacking upon shoes preparatory to polishing and blacking the same, a

scraper 13 for scraping mud or dirt from the shoes, a-

box of polish or blacking 14 and a polishing cloth 15 which will be used in the customary way by being drawn across the shoe to impart the desired shine or luster thereto in the blacking operation.

At one side of the box 1 is located a flap 16 adapted to extend over a comb 17 in order to separate the latter from the articles used in the shoe polishing operation. The articles which will be arranged in the box or cabinet 1 can be compactly disposed and the same will be prevented from rattling by reason of the Contact of the polisher 11 therewith, said polisher 11, as above premised, being of compressible material and firmly holding the several articles within the box 1 from any movement or play which might cause rattling or shifting about thereof, and which would be disadvantageous for obvious reasons.

In addition to the articles above mentioned, it is contemplated that .the body 1 of the outfit shall be provided upon its under side with a longitudinal seat or recess 18, the opposite sides of which are undercut, the top or back of the clothes brush 2 before described, being received in the recess 18 and attached thereto by engagement of the opposite longitudinal edge portions of said top or back with the opposite side portions of the recess or seat 18. The top or back of the brush 2 is of dove-tail form in cross section so thatit will slide longitudinally into the seat or recess 18 and its longitudinal edges will lock with the undercut portions of the recess or seat 18 and thereby prevent displacement of the brush 2 except when the latter is forcibly removed by longitudinal movement. The top or back of the brush 2 has a small mirror or looking-glass 19 countersunk therein so that the surface thereof is flush with that of the back or top of the brush and the mirror can be conveniently used by removal of the brush. The mirror 19 furthermore, when the toilet outfit is not in use, is housed and protected by the body 1 of the outfit and is not liable to be broken or injured even under the most rough usage to which the outfit may be subjected.

From the foregoing description it is thought that the various advantages incidental to an outfit as set forth will be obvious and same are not further remarked upon herein.

Having thus described the invention, What is claimed as new is:

As a new article of manufacture, the herein described toilet and shoe polishing outfit comprising a case having one side thereof open while the opposite side is formed with an under-cut recess, a removable cover for the open side of the case, a compressible polisher carried by the inner face of the removable cover and designed to engage any articles within the case to prevent the same from rattling when the cover is in normal position, a brush pro vided with a back having a dovetail formation and fitting removably within the before mentioned under-cut recess,
