'SUSPENDERS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 30, 1907.
Application filed September 24,1906. Serial No. 336,006.
To all whom it may concern V Be it known that I, GEORGE H. DETERT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Lewistown, in the county of Fergus and State of Montana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Suspenders, of which the following is a specification.
My invention pertains to improvements in suspenders as that term is understood in connection with mens wearing-apparel, especially trousers. Its object is to provide for suspending the trousers and drawers separately, as well as to accommodate the same to the movement or action of the body, it also having in view to dispense with the use of buttons, and to allow the Suspender-ends to remain connectedto the garment after having been once attached or initiated into use, also to secure certain other results as will be apparent later, and to provide for effecting these ends in a simple, economic manner,
Said invention therefore consists of structural features or instrumentalities as hereinafter fully disclosed and specifically pointed out by the claims.
In the accompanying drawing illustrating the preferred embodiment of the inventionFigure 1 is a front elevation of the same, practically, as when applied for use. Fig. 2 is a vertical section thereof. Fig. 3 is a view in elevation, showing the suspending chains disassembled as relates to the suspender proper and relatively disposed thereto. Fig. 4 is a detached or separate view of the chain suspending frame or hanger.
In carrying out my invention, I provide a frame or hanger 1, suitably connected as usual by a clasp or snap 2 to a suspender-member 3. Said frame or hanger 1 has an upper end loop or eye 4, which has immediate engagement with the clasp or snap aforesaid, and has its lower end portion subdivided into three (more or less) compartments or openings 5, 6, 5 and through these apertures are rove and play preferably chains 7, 8 connected to the trousers and drawers, respectively, as presently disclosed. Said frame or hanger is preferably of nickel-plate or like finished or ornamental metal for obvious purposes.
The chain 7 is rove or looped through the lateral apertures 5, 5 of the frame 1 and through two eyelets 9 suitably spaced apart and secured in the trousers, at the waist-band, as otherwise usual, as in applying buttons thereto for the like purpose, said chain being doubled and crossed over upon itself from opposite sides to and having its ends suitably clasped or snapped together. By thus roving and doubling the chain upon itself it is formed practically continuous to allow it to have full play and a see-saw like movement for readily ac commodating the same to the action or movement of the body as is obvious. The chain 8 is passed or rove through the middle aperture 6 in the frame 1 and through the hanger-strap of the drawers 10 and is accordingly doubledupon itself and has its ends clasped or snapped together as in the case of the chain 7 thus permitting it to be looped around and slide laterally upon said hanger-strap of the drawers for obvious reasons.
As before stated, it is apparent that, by releasing the snap or clasp 2, the trouser suspending chains and adjunctive parts may all be retained upon that garment as may also the drawer suspending chains remain attached to the latter thus lessening trouble and facilitating said operation. Also the use of buttons upon the trousers for this purpose is obviated while the pulling off of these is not to be contended with, and the greatest strength is secured at the previously weakest point.
I claim 1. A device of the character described, comprising a suspending frame of suspenders, eyelets arranged in fixed position separate from the suspenders and a continuous suspending means alternately rove through said frame and said eyelets and double upon and diagonally across itself said suspending means having self-shiftable or adjusting bearing upon said frame and eye1ets.-
2. A suspenderend, comprising a hanger or frame, means for clasping or snapping it into position upon the suspender proper, a chain looped or rove through said hanger and eyelets applied to the'trousers and crossed upon itself from opposite sides, a second chain likewise looped through said hanger and the drawers hanger-strap both of said suspending means having self-shiftable or ad justing bearing upon said frame and eyelets.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
GEORGE H. DETERT.
