To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY A. FRYE, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, (borough of Manhattan,) in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Suspensory, of which the following isa full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to suspensories and more particularly to the supporting means employed.
The object of the invention is to so support the device that it fits more perfectly and is held more securely in place, permitting the wearer to move about as freely as he may desire without displacing the device or causing any binding or tightening effect.
The entire device is. suspended by two supporting straps, secured adjacent the front portion of the sack and to a belt at points a',short distance at each side front sides they are held in the proper position and support the rear of the sack. These stiffening strips serve not only to support the rear portion of the sack and hold it in the proper position, but also produce a mild soft spring action to the side pieces so as to prevent their excessive bending or folding.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both the figures, in which Figure 1 is a front elevation of the complete device; and Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the lower portion thereof.
My improved device comprises a belt 1, preferably of elastic material and having any suitable means, as for instance, a buckle 2, for securing the ends thereof together. Two supporting straps 3, preferably vof elastic material, are fastened to the belt at the front side and at equal distances from the center. These straps are adjustably secured to the belt both as regards the length of the strapsand as regards the points suitable material, are inserted between the thicknesses of each side member 'to serve as a support and to prevent excessive bending of the parts. These strips 8 may be secured in place in any suitable manner but preferably by sewing across the ends and along the center, as indicated in the drawings. The front and rear edges of the sack are secured to elastic strips 9 and 10, which connect the two side members, and a third elastic connecting strip 11 is provided between the side members at points intermediate the length of the front edges. The only supports for the sack are the two straps 3, and as both of these are secured to the belt on the front side and there are no supports connecting the rear of the sack with the rear of the belt, or encircling either of the limbs of the wearer, it will be seen that there is no part which can bind or create any undue pressure when the wearer is exercising or bending in any unnatural position. The rear side of the sack is properly supported and held in place by the stiffened character of the side members to which it is secured. The opening to the sack is held from closing or contracting by the stiffness of the side member, and as the front connecting strip is held down when in use, it is practically impossible for the device to become accidentally displaced.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
1. In a device of the class described, supporting straps, side members having rearwardly-extending wings, strips of stiffening material secured within said wings for supporting the same and preventing the excessive bending thereof, and a sack suspended from said side members and wings.
2. In a device of-the class described, a belt, straps adjustably secured thereto at the front side only, side members having their front upper corners secured to the lower ends of said straps and having rcarwardlyextending wings, each side and member and Wing being constructed of a plurality of layers with stiffening strip secured between the layers and extending into said wing, and a sack suspended from said side members and wings.
