Description

PATBNTBD JULY 2s, 1907.
I. W. CHAMBBRLAIN.
DISPLAY DEVICE.
APPLICATION IILIED'MAY 11. 1907.
@uw Ww www ation/mus UMTED sTATEs PATENT oEEreE.
FREDERIC W. CHAMBERLAIN, OF THREE OAKS, MICHIGAN, ASSIGNOR'TO THE WARREN FEATHERBONE COMPANY, OF THREE OAKS, MICHIGAN.
DISPLAY DEVICE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
To all whom it may concern.'
Be it known that I, FREDERIC W. CHAMBERLAIN, a citizen of the United States, residing at the village of Three Oaks, county of Berrien, State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Display Devices, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in display devices.
It relates particularly to improvements in display devices for the stiffening blades or strips for apparel collars.
The main object of this invention is to provide an improved display device for collar supports or stiftening blades which is also adapted to serve as a pattern for a collar.
Further objects, and objects relating to structural details, will definitely appear from the detailed description to follow.
I accomplish the objects of my invention by the devices and means described in thefollowing specification. A
The device is clearly defined and pointed out in the claims.
A structure embodying the features of my invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawing, forming a part of this specification, in which,
Figure l is a plan view of my improved display device with the supports or stiffening blades for an apparel collar in position thereon. Fig. 2 is a plan View of the supporting card with the collar supports removed. Fig. 3 is an enlarged transverse section showing the preferred manner of securing the collar supports to the card, taken on a line corresponding to line 3 3 of Fig. l. Fig. 4 is an enlarged detail taken on a line corresponding to line 4 4 of Figs. l and 3, showing further details of the arrangement and manner of securing the supports to the card.
In the drawing similar characters of reference refer to similar parts throughout the several views, and the sectional views are taken looking in the direction of the little arrows at the ends of the section lines.
Referring to the drawing, the card l is of proper form and design to serve as a pattern for an apparel collar. A diagram illustrating the position of the stiffening blades or supports of the collar is printed on the card, as clearly appears in Fig. 2. The stiffening blades or supports are secured upon the collar, accrding to this diagram, so as to fully illustrate their position in the collar. These stiffening blades pref- See Fig. 4.
By this means I secure a display device for the stiffening blades or supports for collars which is very attractive in appearance and at the same time serves the additional function of a pattern and of illustrating to the purchaser the proper arrangement of the stiffening members in a collar.
It is evident that the device is very economical to produce.
In practice I contemplate printing instructions and such other information as may be desired'on the card It is obvious that this in no manner affects its utility.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim Patented July 23, 1907.
as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
l. In a display device,- the combination of a card adapted to serve as a pattern for a collar, said card having a diagram indicating the arrangement of the stiffening or supporting blades of the collar printed thereon; and collar stiftening or supporting blades arranged on said card ac cording to said diagram, said blades comprising resilient body portions and pocket-like fabric covers therefor, the ends or' said covers, which project beyond the body portions, being turned under the same, said stiffening or supporting blades being secured to said card by stitches which pass through the inturned ends of the said stiffening blade covers.
2. In a display device, the combination of a card adapted to serve as a pattern for a collar, said card having a diagram indicating the arrangement of the stiftening or supporting blades of the collar printed thereon; and collar stiffening or supporting blades arranged on and secured to said card according to the said diagram.
3. In a display device, the combination of a card adapted to serve as a pattern for a collar; vand collar stilfening or supporting blades arranged on said card to illustrate their' position in the collar, said blades comprising resilient body portions and pocket-like fabric covers therefor, the ends of said covers, which project beyond the body portions, being turned under the same, said stiffening or supporting blades being secured to said cards by stitches which pass through the inturned ends of the said stilfening blade covers.
In witness whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and seal in the presence of two witnesses.
FREDERIC XV. CHAMBERLAIN.
