SIECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 476,943, dated June 14, 1892.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, GUSTAV FALK, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Hands of Leaf-Tobacco, of which the followin g is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part thereof, and in which- Figure 1 is a plan View of a collection of ordinary hands of tobacco. Fig. 2 is a plan View of a collection of my improved hands. Fig. 3 is a crosssection of one of my improved hands on the line of the stitches e.

My invention relates to an improved tobacco-hand; and it consists in the construction thereof, as hereinafter described, and distinctly pointed out in the claim.

The object of my invention is to produce a tobacco-hand which will obviate the necessity of packing and transporting the obj ectionableand useless butt-ends, which when so packed jure the overlying and underlying hands or bu udles. B y my improved hand I am enabled tionable matter therefrom and occupy much less room than heretofore.

Fig. 1 shows a collection of ordinary hands with the butt-ends attached thereto, and in which a, represents the body portion, and b the butt-ends attached thereto. 0 designates the means for tying or fastening generally used in an ordinary hand.

In Fig. 2 is shown a collection of my improved hands, each hand consisting of leaves placed flat upon each other and having the butt-ends removed on the line (1 of Fig. 1 and being stitched transversely across the body portion, as shown at e, which stitching keeps the various leaves in their respective positions, forming a fiat compact mass without danger of injury from hard and objectionable sub stances.

A hand of leaf-tobacco separated from the butt-ends, arranged together in a flat form, and secured together by stitching, substantially as described.
