hosiery and has for its object to provide a stocking which will be absolutely waterproof and which will at the same time keep the feet warm. My device is particularly adapted for use by surveyors, engineers and those similarly engaged whose duties necessitate walking in wet and rough places such. as creeks, marshes and mines. For this class of work so caJIedwatermof shoes and rubber boots havebeen found to be unsuitable and unserviceable; the best so called waterproof shoes in use will more or less rapidly admit moisture and the rubber boots are both inconvenient and liable to puncture. With my improved form of stocking any convenient make of shoe may be used and the feet kept perfectly dry and warm by the use of the novel stocking, thus insuring comfort and preventing colds and rheumatism. Referring to the drawing forming a part of this specification, the figure represents a fragmentary view of a stocking made up in accordance with my invention.
In the illustration, 1 represents an elastic and absorbent fabric inner stocking, preferably of cotton.

I am aware that it its old in the art to associate cotton, woolen and similar fabrics with rubber in the ,manufacture of gloves and boots, and I expressly disclaim the broad use of these three materials, my invention consisting in the co-operation of the three to produce the unitary result described.
Having thus fully described my invention I claim as novel and desire to protect by Letters Patent:
1. In a waterproof stocking, the combination of an inner absorbent fabric unit, an intermediate waterproof .between the. shoe and the waterproof stocking to prevent wearand puncture of saidv intermediate rubber.
unit, and an outer cushioning fabric unit, snbstantiaiiy as described and for the purposes set forth.
2. A waterproof stocking comprising an inner cotton unit, an elastic rubber intermediate unit, and a thick outer woolen unit, substantially as described and'for the purposes'set forth.
3. In an article of the ciass described, the combination of an inner absorbent fabric stocking, aneia'stic rubber stocking surrounding said inner stocking but unattached thereto, and a-cushioning unit surrounding the foot of said rubber stocking, for the purpose set forth.
