To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MoRRIs E. TABER, of the city of Buffalo, in the county of Erie and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Boots, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to that class of boots which are composed of an inner portion of felt-,which incases the foot and the lower portion of the leg, and an outer portion of leather, which protects the lower part of the inner felt portion. In wearingthis class of boots in the Wet, especially in melting snow, the moisture frequently penetrates the outerleather covering and reaches the inner felt portion, rendering the latter damp for a long time, as the outer leather covering retards the evaporation of the moisture in the felt.
The object of my invention is to overcome this difficulty; and it consists of a water-proof lining or sock interposed between the leather and the felt, whereby the latter is protected against moisture, as will be hereinafter fully described, and pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved boot. Fig. 2 is a sectional elevation thereof.

A represents the inner portion of the boot, composed of felt and made of the usual shape to incase the foot and the lower portion of the leg.
B represents the outer portion or covering of leather, constructed in the form of a low boot and provided with a heavy sole and heel.
water-proof material, arranged between the felt portion A and the leather portion B of the boot. This lining is constructed in the form of a sock, and incases the lower part of the felt portion A. The lining 0 extends upwardly to the top of the leather portion B, and the three layers of felt, waterproof material, and leather are secured together by one or more lines of stitching, (1, running along the upper edge of the leather portion B.
In constructing my improved boot the felt portion A is placed upon a suitable last, the waterproof lining G is then drawn over the foot of the felt portion A, the leather boot B is next drawn over the lining O, and the three parts of the boot are finally securedtogcther by stitching.
The water-proof lining prevents any moisture from reaching the felt through the leather, and keeps the foot dry without impairing the pliability of the boot or materially increasing its thickness.
I claim as my invention-- A boot composed of an inner portion, A, of felt, a water-proof sock, G, incasing the foot of the felt portion, and an outer portion, B, of leather, substantial-1y as set forth.
