N. PETERS, FHOTO-LITHOGRAFHER, WASHINGTON D c UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
MORITZ MAYER, or New YORK, N. in, ASSIGNOR, BY MEsNn ASSIGNMENT, To sorrnn MAYER, or SAME rLAoE.
IMPROVEMENT IN INSOLES FOR BOOTS AND SHOES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 208,190, dated September 17', 1878; application filed July 26, 1878.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MORITZ IVIAYER, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Insoles for Boots and Shoes; and I do hereby declare that the following is an exact and clear description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification.
The object of my invention is to produce a cheap and effective absorbing insole for boots and shoes.
My invention consists in placing between the outer coverings of the insole, which may be of leather-board or any other suitable material, an intermediate layer of absorbing material, such as paper, sponge, felt, or any such like absorbing material. These three parts are held together by stitches; and the holes through which the stitches pass are made considerably larger than the said stitches for the purpose of allowing the moisture of the absorbin g material to evaporate in order to dry the same after it is removed from the boot or shoe.
In order to more fully describe my invention, I refer to the drawings, of which- Figure 1 is a plan view of my improved insole. Fig. 2 is a sectional view on line a: 00, Fig. 1.
A and A are the outer coverings of the insole, which may be made of leather-board or any other suitable material. Between the outer coverings, A and A, is placed a layer, B, of absorbing material, such as paper, sponge, felt, or any such like absorbing material.
When the parts A and A and B are assembled, as shown in Fig. 2, they are held together by the stitches d 61 passing through the holes 0 c in the outer coverings, A A. These holes are made larger than the stitches for the purpose of allowing the moisture of the layer B to evaporate. The outer coverings, A and A, may be covered with linen, cotton, &c., in the ordinary manner.
Having thus described my invention, I desire to claim- An improved insole composed of outer coverings of leather-board or other suitable material and an intermediate layer of absorbent material, the whole sewed together, as shown and described, and provided with the enlarged stitch-holes, for the purpose set forth.
This specification signed this 20th day of July, 1878.
MORITZ MAYER.
