UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
MARKS SILVERBERG, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
IMPROVEMENT lN INSOLES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 202,596, dated April 16, 1878; application filed February 33, 1578.
. To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, MARKS SILVERBERG, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Insole, of which the following is a specification:
Figure 1 is a tl2tllS"8ISB section taken on line a; ain Fig. 2. Fig. 2 is a plan view.
The object of my invention is to provide a durable water-proof insole having the required rigidity, while it is at the same time so thin as to be worn comfortablyin any boot or shoe.
The invention consists of a sole made of leather-board orpaste-board made from leather scraps, and covered on one side with kid, sheepskin, or enameled cloth, and varnished on the other side to render it proof against moisture.
Referring to the drawing, A is a sole cut from leather-board, and covered on one side with a facing; b, of kid, sheep-skin, or other similar material, and covered with water-proof varnish on the other side. The covering is attached to the body with any suitable paste, or
by stitching around the edges, or both. The sole thus made is very thin, and may be worn with comfort in any shoe or boot. The present method of manufacturing sewed boots and shoes by machinery leaves a ridge of waxed thread in the shoe, which is uncomfortable to the feet and damaging to the stockings. My improved insole covers the waxed thread. and atl'ords an even and agreeable surface for the foot.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent As an improved article of manufacture, an insole composed of a thickness of leatherboard, varnished on its under side to render it Water-proof, and a thin leather covering, substantially as herein shown and described.
MARKS SILVERBERG. lVit-nesses:
Gno. M. HOPKINS, C. SEDGVVIOK.
