HENRY T. LEE, 0F JERSEY GITY, NEW JERSEY.- Leum Patent No.fs5,679, Marianna/ry 5,1869.
DIPROVED WASHING-MAC`HINE BOILER COmINI-ED.
.Ilm Bohndnlo referred to in there Letter: Patent and making part of the lame.
To all whom# I11m/ i] concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY T` Len, of .Jersey City, in the county of Hudson, and State of New Jersey', have inventeda new and improved Combined Boileraud Washing-Machine; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to `maire and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification. This invention relates to a combined boiler and washing-machine, having two or more compartments for the reception of clothes, 85e., to be washed, the e ow for the water or grating, set near the bottom of the boiler, the Washing being performed by imparting an up-and-down motion to a double lever, which is bail, which forms a fulcrum for will bev clearly understood from the following description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specication, in whichv Figure 1 represents a sectional side elevation through A 7 Figure 2 is aplan of removed` Similar letters of the same, with the lids or covers' reference indicate corresponding In this'case, the articles -to be washed are placedin on top of the grating 0,-which is supported on lugs, a sufficient height from the bottom of the boiler to form a space, a, which admitsof a full owof the water or suds from one chamber to the other under the said grating, as the plungers E and F are alternately worked up and down.
The plungers E v,and F are corrugated on their under surfaces, and are made to iit their respective chambers closely, with cotton or other suitable packing, fitted in a cavity provided for such purpose in the said plungers. v
G is a double lever, having its fulcrum on an adjustable bail, H, which spans across theA boiler, and whose ends slide in recessesprovided for them in the sides of the said boiler.
, The plungers are connected to the by the rods I I, which have a series of holes, J for the purpose of regulating the stroke to suit the quantity of clothes contained in the chambers.
It will thus be seen that the water or su in the chambers lA and B is forced both up and down, through and through the clothing contained therein, and by making use of both the up and downward stroke, it must accomplish its work more speedily than those `now 1n use.
I do not claim any of the devices herein described, separately'considered; but having fully described my invention,
What I claim as new, Patent, is
The combined boiler and washingdescribed, consisting essentiallyof the compartments A B, spacea, grating O, and corrugated plungers E F, the whole combined and arranged in the manner and for the purpose set forth.
The above specification of my invention signed by me, this 15th day of December, 1868. 1
' v .HENRY T. LEE.
and desireto secure by Letters machine herein Witnesses:
