`My invention has for its obj ect to furnish an improved washinglmachine, 4simple in con` struction, effective in Operation, and easily operated, and lwhich shall be so constructed as to wash the clothes by alternatepressure and saturation without rubbing, and consequently without injuring even the most delicate fabrics;

audit consists in the construction and combina tion of the various parts of the macl1ine,as hereinafterdmorefully described.

Ais the body or tub of the machine, which is made semi-cylindricalfin form, and which Vis supported uponlegs B, of such a lengt has to raise the machine to a convenient height.

In the sides ofthe tub A are secured inclined racks C, vformed by attaching cross-barswith their forward edges rounded'off to sidebars,

as shown in Figs. l and 2.

D is the middle part of the top or cover of the machine, which is stationary, and is permanently attached to the upper edges of the said tub. l

E are the side parts of thecover, whichare 1` hinged at their inner edges to the edges of the elevation by a set-screw passing in through -made of such a length that its hand-pieces h may project at the sides of the tub A.

To the lower side of the lever H are adjustably pivoted the upper ends of arms or bars I, so that the said bars or arms may be v adj usted to work nearer to or farther from the vertical line, as may be desired. The bars or arms I pass down into the 'tub A through slots in theends `of the stationary part D of the cover, and to their lower ends are `attached the pressers J, which are made of such alength as to eXtend across the tub A, and the end parts of which are slotted to allow the water pressed outof the clothes to escape through said slots. -By this construction, as the lever H is operated the pressers J are forced down alternately upon the clothes upon the opposite sides of the tub A,thewater is pressed out of them, and at the same time the clothes are turned or have their position changed, so as to be operated upon each time in a different part. ter forced before them rises or plows up through the spaces between the racks C andthe curved sides of the tub A, the surging back of which water,upon the withdrawal ofthe pressers,materially assists in turning the clothes.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent-` An improved washing-machine formed by the combination of the stationary racks C, stationary part D of the cover, support or bracket F, adjustable standard G, lever H h, adj ustable pivoted arms I, and pressers J with each other and with the semi-cylindrical tub A, said parts being constructed and operating substantially as herein shown and described,
