lIMPROVEMENT IN WASHING-MACHINES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 129,684, dated July 23, 1,872.
To all whom `tmaty concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES H. SAWYEE, of Buxton, in the county of York and State of Maine, have invented a new and useful Improved Combined Washin g-Machine and Boiler; and I hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference beinghad to the accompanying drawing which is hereby. made a part of this speciication, in Which-` Y Figure l shows a side elevation of my'boiler and washing-machine, part in perspective and with part broken out to show the bottom. Fig. 2 is a detail in perspective of the cover.

A shows a vessel of proper size, cylindrical in form, and made of any proper material, having a top or cover, l), which cover is removable, but heldin place, when on the vessel passes the stock E. His a'lever to impart a rotary or reciprocatory motion to the rubber C when in the tub or vessel A, and is removable from the squared end J of said stock E, and may also be used as a clothes-stick. The formation of the bottom of the boiler or tub A is seen at B, Fig. l. It is provided with radial ribs or corrugations, as illustratedV These may be of rubber, wood, or any desirable material. The formation of the bottom of the rubber C is seen in Fig. 3. It has also radial ribs or corrugations, and is perforated to the extent required for convenience in use. The holes are to allow the water to pass up freely through the rubber, and thus not resist its being pressed down into the tub or vessel A when the same is filled with Water. The holes are seen at K.
The boiler is used as follows, viz.: The water and articles to be' cleansed are placed in the boiler A and the same placed over a fire. When the, Water is of a proper temperature the rubber C is then put in motion by the lever H and'thearticles to be cleansed are rubbed between the bottom of the rubber K and the bottom B of the vessel A. The rotation of the rubber C can also be occasioned by a vertical motion of the arm Hby a combination of levers, so as to change the vertical motion of H in such way as to rotate or turn the stock E.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The vessel A, having the bottom B, cover D, with frame F, clamp G, in combination with the rubber C, as described, stock E, and lever H, all as set forth.
