Be it known that I, THEREsA D. Avi-infr, a citizen of 'the United States, residing at Bushings Store, in the county of Lauderdale and State vof'Mississippi, have invented a new and useful Infant-Protector; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the saine. g

This invention relates to a combined baby crib or cradle'and guard, the object thereof being to provide a device of this character adapted to hold one or more babies, and to be used as an' ordinary crib or guard, for effectively protecting babies while in the open air or indoors.

Primarily and essentially the invention comprises a pair of rockers, which are connected bv a central cross rod, to which is pivoted, each half of the cradle; each half comprisinga rectangular framework of stout tubing or rods, such as shown in Figure 1.

' The parts of the tubings or rods which connect to the cent-ral rod are formed in loops so .as to be pivotally connected thereto, one of these halves of the crib has pivoted thereto a cover, and one end of the cover is provided with a plate having an opening to engage the catch carried by 'the other half of the crib;

these halves of the crib are held up by the i bars carried by the rockers, as clearly shown.

This invention com rises further objects and combinations of eiements which will be hereinafter more fully described, shown the accompanying drawings, and the novel features thereof will be pointed out by the appended claims;v

This rod is journaled in suitable bearings in the slight extensions 4 of the rockers, as shown clearly in the drawings. Pivoted to each end of the rocker 2, as at 5, is a bar 6, the other ends of which are fastened to the ends of the rocker 1.

Each half of the crib or cradle is composed of stout tubing or rods 8 of rectangular contour, which are turned in loops 9, and are' pivotally connected to the central rod 3 so as to allow each half to swing down when desired. livotally connected to one of these halves, as at 11, is the cover 12, which is also composed of stout tubing or rods 13, of rectangular contour; one end of this cover is provided with a plate 14, which extends downward and provided with an opening designed to engage the catch. 16, formed with the plate 17 carried by one of the .halves of the cradle, as shown clearly in Fig. -1'.

The locking parts for the cover is designed to be just connected togetherin some instances, but in others where great danger is feared, a padlock 18 may be carried by the catch 16, as clearly shown in Fig. 2 of the drawings. Connected to the central bar, as at 19, are the slats 20, the other ends of which are connected to the rod 21 of each half of the crib, as at 22, as clearly shown in the drawings these slats are connected in this manner so as to allow each half to swing downward, as will be clearly evident from the accompanying drawings and the description in connection therewith.

The framing of each half of the cradle and the framinor of? the cover for the cradle or crib is provided with stout wire mesh 23 so as to provide a complete inclosureA in which one or more babies may be placed, that is, after the mattress 24 is fixed in place, as shown in Fig. 2.

,It is to be understood that various changes and modifications may be employed in the construction and embodiment thereof, combinations of features, and elements, without in any way departing from the spirit and scope of the invention covered by t ie claims thereof; it being understood that whatever variations or modifications are employed must fall within the scope of the appended claims.

From the foregoing, the essential features, elements and the operation of the device, together with the simplicit)vv thereof, will lbe clearljT apparent, and, when manufactured in accordance with the invention, an inexpensive market will be easily obtained therefor.

Having thus fully described the invention, what is claimed as new and useful by the protection of Letters Patent, is

1. A crib or cradle consisting of two halves, each half composed of tubing or rods of rectangular contour, each half being provided With loops, a pair of rockers for the cradle, a. central rod connecting said rockers forming a pivot for each half of the cradle.

2.'A crib or cradle comprising a pair of rockers, a rod connecting said rockers a rectangular basket pivots-ll;v carried by said rod, and means for supporting each end oi said basket.

3. A crib or cradle comprising a pair of rockers, a rod connecting them together, a basket pivotall; carried by said rod consisting of two halves, each half having loops to engage said rod, and means for supporting the ends of eachhal.

4. A crib or cradle comprising a pair of rockers, a rod connecting them together, a basket pivotally carried by said rod consisting of two halves, each half having loops to engage said rod, means for supporting the ends of each half, a cover for the basket, a
