NITED STATES JOSEPH E. \VALTER AND WILLIAM B. MONTGOMERY, OF ABINGDON, MD.
NURSERY-CHAIR.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 300,921, dated June 24, 1884.
Application filed February 13, 1884. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, JosEPH E. WALTER and WILLIAM B. MONTGOMERY, citizens of the United States, residing at Abingdon, in the county of Harford and State of Maryland, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Nursery-Chairs, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth and claimed, reference beinghad to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which- Figure l is a perspective view of a nurserychair with ourimprovements attached. Fig. 2 is a central vertical section of the same.
Our invention relates to chairs'for the use of very small children; and it consists in the novel construction and combination of devices, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth and claimed.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use our invention, we will proceed to describe the exact manner in which we have carried it out. i I
In the drawings, A represents the frame of our improved nursery-chair, which consists, essentially, of four curved legs or supports B, firmly secured near their'lower ends by cross- A- circular plate, 0, located immediately'above these cross-pieces, has openings formed thereon, in which the legs B are fitted, thereby securing a simple and substantial frame. Through the circular plate 0 passes a hub, D, its lower end being slotted or formed with openings, through which the cross-pieces Z) I) are passed, while that portion of the hub above the circular plate 0 tapers toward the seat, and has a smaller hub d, formed thereon, to receive a corresponding sleeve, E, having radial arms, to which the revolving chair 1?, of any desired construction, is attached. The curved legs or supports B are secured together at their upper ends by the ring or loop G, hinged at g, while one of the curved supports B has also a hinge at c, which permits the upper portion of the leg to be lowered when it is desired to occupy the chair. A loop secured to the under side of the chair is-made to engage with a notch formed on the hingedleg B.
From this description it will be readily seen that,an infant being placed in the chair, and the hoop and hinged leg being secured as herein described,it will be impossible for the child to fall out or to overturn the chair, while the pivoted seat permits of a free swinging movement, and the surrounding hoop enables the child to turn itself inany direction.
Having thus fully described our invention, what we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. The supporting-frame having legs B, provided with hoop G, in combination with stand ard D and a seat pivoted thereon, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
2. The supporting-frame having legs B, provided with hoop G, in combination with standard D having hub d, and seat F, provided with a sleeve, E, substantially as herein set forth.
3. The supporting-frame having legs B, one of which is provided with a pivoted portion, in combination with hoop G, divided and hinged together as shown, a seat supported within the upper part of legs 13, and devices for locking the pivoted part of the leg and hinged part of the hoop together, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
