UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
PETER A. SOHUOH, OF LOUISVILLE, KENTUCKY.
CHURN.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 427,192, dated May 6, 1890.
Application filed February 3, 1890. Serial No. 338,958. (No model.)
To all whom it noay concern.-
Be it known that I, PETER A. SCHUCH, a cit izen of the United States, residing at Louisville, in the county of Jefferson and State of Kentucky, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Churns; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention has relation to improvements in churns; and it consists inthe novel construction, arrangement, and combination of parts, all as will be hereinafter fully set forth.
The annexed drawings, to which reference is made, fully illustrate my invention, in which Figure l'represents a vertical sectional view of my churn. Fig. 2 is an end View of the same. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the swinging frame, and Fig. at is a perspective view of one of the lugs 0.
Referring by letter to the accompanying drawings, A designates the churn box or body, which is constructed in oval form, the sides a a of which are secured to the main portion 1) by rods 0, the ends of which have nuts d. A lid e, having a knob or handle f, is placed over the opening in which the cream is poured into the body.
3 represents a stand for this body, which consists of uprights g g, which are connected by a cross-piece h and braced to the feet 2' by braces j j. At the upper end of these standards 9 g are hooks 1a 7a, and suspended from which by eyes or loops 1 Z is a frame 0, composed of said eyes and diagonal bars m 'm and cross-bars n 'n, the whole formed integral, and on the under side of the churn is secured lugs 0 0, which are notched or V- shaped and are adapted to receive the crossbars n n, which-support as well as provide a pivotal connection between said frame and the standards aforesaid. At each end of the churn-body I secure castings 10 19. having overlapping flange q and a circular head 9", which is recessed at s to receive the ends of the handle 25, by which handle the churn is operated.
It will be seen that in churning, the body by its handle is given a swinging movement back and forth, and when desired the body can be lifted clear of the frame 0 and the latter can be readily detached from the standards. At the same time said standards can be easily taken apart or knocked down ready for shipping, thus taking up very little room; and it is durable, as Well as cheap to manufacture.
What I claim is The combination, in a churn, of the standards connected by the cross-bar having the hooks, the body provided with a handle, the V-shaped lugs secured to the under side of the body, the frame C, composed of the diagonal bars, the eyes, and the cross-bars, said eyes,
diagonal bars, and cross-bars being formed integral, all as and for the purpose set forth. In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
. PETER A. SCHUOH. Witnesses:
Mrs. H. YAGER, BERNARD HEIL.
