Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
Minot s. noLMAN, or nonno, MIcHIeAN.-
|MPRovEMEN1" |N BABY-WALKERS.
Specification forming part of Letters I {atent No. 153,827. dated August 4, 1874; application filed March 13, 1874.
To all whom it may concer-n:
Be it known that I, MIRON S. HOLMAN, of Romeo, in the county of Macomb and State of Michigan, have invented an Improvement in a Ohilds Walking-Stool, of which the following is a specification The nature of this invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in the construction of stools designed for the use of small children; and the invention has for its object to so construct the stool that it Will sustain the small child in its first ei'orts to walk erect that it will afford hiln a seat upon Which to rest when tired; that will not too easily be moved on the floor, as is the case Where casters are employed; and that will be so broad at the base that no ordinaryT accident will overturn it, as more fully hereinafter described.
In the accompanying drawings, which show the device in perspective, A represents a hoop or ring, of any suitable material, from Which rise the four curved legs or braces B. C is a circular seat, itted between and properly secured to the legs A, about midway of their length, with an aperture, a, through the center. D is a circular rim, larger than the seat below, and provided with a larger aperture, b. This rim is Iitted and securedin any convenient way to the top ofthe legs or braces. The height of the Whole device should be about sixteen inches, or that of an ordinary chair-seat. The child, being strong enough to stand alone, is placed in the stool, his legs through the seat', While the rim will be of proper height for hin to rest his arms upon. This sustains him from falling, and in his efforts to Walk, or get from one part of the room to another, the ring will slide upon the door, and its broad base will prevent the device from being easily tipped over. When he becomes tired, he will soon learn to rest himself upon the seat C.
Vhat I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In combination with the hoop A, rim D, and braces B, the circular seat C, when the said parts are constructed and arranged to operate substantially as and for the purpose described.
` MIRON S. HOLMAN.
