CRADLE arranaros.
Specification of Letters Patent.
;ate'nted May 29, 1917.
Application and May ai, 1913. Serial No. 770,877;
To-all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, \VILLIMI F. WALBH, acitizen of the United States, residing at St. Paul, in the county of Ramsey and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cradle Apparatus, of which the following is aspecification.
My invention relates to improvements in foot-power cradles, its object being particularly to provide improvements in the construction, whereby the same is particularly strong and simple and easily collapsible with the cradle part removable.
To this end the invention consists in the features of construction, combination, and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and claimed. 3
In the accompanying drawings forming part of this specification,
Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved invention;
Fig. 2 is a detail view of a portlon of one basket Fig. 3 is a detail View, broken away, of the other side support for the basket;
Fig. 4 is a detail view of part of the framework;
Fig. 5 is a detail View of one pair of the bottom cross bars broken away;
Fig. 6 is a detail view of the treadle portion; and
Fig. 7 is a detail view of a portion of the framework and adjacent end of one of the bottom cross bars.
Referring to the drawings, 2 and 2 represent a. pair of vertical side bars supported by the side base portions 3 and 3. The base portions are connected by parallel pairs of .hingedly connected bars sand 4. The bars hinge connection 5 with the base portions and extend underneath the base ortions, as shown particularly in Fig. 7. he inner end of each bar 4 has hinge connection 6 with the coiiperating bar 4 and overlaps the same, the bars 4 and 4 being adapted to be held in alinement by a clip ivotal support 8 .upon the bar 4 and turnable over the overlap ing ends of the bars 4 and 4". The vertica standards2 and 2. are connected by hingedly connected cross bars 9 and 9*,said cross bars 9 and 9* having hinge connection 10 with each other and simila connection 11 with the vertical 4 and 4 have standards. Said cross bars are each formed bear against the vertical standard when the cross bars are extended. The cross bar 9 preferably overlaps the cross bar 9, as shown.
Adapted to be rcinovahly supportei'l in the upper ends of the standards, is the cradle basket 13. As shown, the basket 13 is formed with side brackets 14 at the rear 01 the center of the basket, each side bracket being formed with an outwardly extending pivot pin 15 adapted to fit in the slotted openings 16 in the side standards. The pivot pin 15 at one side of the basket is formed with a forwardly extending arm 17 from the end of which depends a chain 1.8 connected at its lower end with a treaclle 20. The treadle 20, as shown, has a support upon the rod 21, which extends downwardly through a slot in the treadle and is formed with a laterally bent lower end.
In operation, with the parts set up as shown in Fig. 1, and a child in the basket with the head toward the rear, the natural weight of the child will hold the basket in level position. The brackets are so adjusted upon the basket that this will result. The depressing of the treadle will lower the front end of the basket, the weight of the child carrying it back to level position and thus causing a rocking motion of the basket. In collapsing the basket the chain will be dis connected from the treadle and the basket lifted from the side bars. The frame may then be collapsed through the medium of the hinge connection between the cross bars and the hinge connection between the cross bars and sides of the frame, the'clips being turned away from the cross bars to allow them be- 'work including a pair of upright standards having shaft bearings 'in their upper ends, a cradle arranged between the standards and providedwith oppositely extending bearing pins journalingin the shaft bearings of the standard, a forwardly extending angular arm fixed on one of the bearing pins and terminating in a hook, fan underlyin treadle pivoted to the framework and guiv ed in its movement, anda flexible connectionbetween the hooked terminal of the a'rm and the treadle.
2. A cradle apparatus, comprising a frame work consisting a pair of side base memcradle swingingly supported by the stand-' ards, and means connecting the treadle to the cradle.
3. A cradle apparatus comprising a pair of side bars having downturned ends supporting the bars, folding bars for bracin the side bars apart, said folding bars eacg comprising hingedly connected sections lunged to the side bars and one section of each folding bar overlapping the companion section at its inner end to prevent downward breaking of the bar, a standard rising from each side bar, one standard extending below its supporting bar and both standards having shaft bearings in their upper end of the standards and provided portions, a folding bar bracing the standards apart and comprising sections overlapping at their inner ends and having their outer ends downturned to abut the standards, a clip pivoted to one section of each folding bar for swinging over the overlapping inner ends thereof to lock the sections against folding, a cradle journaled in the shaft bearings of the standards, an arm extending from one of the cradle bearings and fixed thereto for rocking the cradle, 11 treadle pivoted to the aforesaid downward extension of said standard, and a connection between the arm-and the, treadle,
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence 0 two witnesses.
