UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CARL WEISSE, OF ALTENBURG, GERMANY.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 14, 1907.
Application filed January 24, 1907. Serial No. 353,894.
' is a longitudinal section of the till in its disengaged position. Fig. 2 is a plan. Fig. 3 is a longitudinal section with the alarm device engaged, and Figs. 4 and 5, are a modiication.
The till consists of the boX a in the interior of which a movable frame I) slides, which carries a number of keys d provided with iingers k. The keys d are covered by a finger-plate c. Below said keys, pawls el are arranged in a number equal to the number of the keys, and rotatable around their pivots. These pawls e rest on a movable plate f, which is provided with a bar e', said bar having abutments g and h, the abutment g corresponding with a spring influenced abutment m. Z represents the alarm bell. Now, upon preventing the till being opened, one or more pawls e are to be turned upward at an angle or' 1800, and then the drawer of the till is to be closed. Upon any attempt to open the drawer again, the iingers 7c of the keys d push against the pawls e, whereupon the plate f and bar i become displaced, that is to say, said plate and bar are drawn outward just as much as the slots h provid ed in the bar i, may allow. By this movement of the bar and plate, the abutment g becomes disengaged with the spring influenced abutment m and situates itself against g, thus preventing the drawer being pushed back again. Simultaneously with the displacement of the abutment m, the abutment h is influenced which operates a lever of the bell Z whereupon the latter rings. The abutment h may also be situated outside the till, as shown in Fig. 4. It is then necessary that the drawer slides in grooves. The bell may be attached to the table top and is similarly operated upon pulling out the drawer. v The attempts to open the till can also be indicated by means oi an adjustable double base, or by means of the side walls, or by means of both the double base and the side walls simultaneously, as shown in Fig. 5. Of course these parts must be in suitable connection with the alarm device.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
A till, comprising in combination, keys (d) and adjustable pawls (e) in which the attaching plate for the pa wls is provided with a slide bar, or the base ofthe drawer in connection with the attaching plate, or anyother part of said drawer, or the whole drawer can be displaced upon the attempt of opening the drawer by any unauthorized person, thus locking the drawer and simultaneously operating a bell, substantially as described and shown and for the purposeset forth.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
CARL WEISSE.
