BRACKET FOR WINDOWS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 7', 1907.
Application led August 10,. 1906. Serial No. 330,075.
To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, PATRICK A. FENIAN, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Pittsburg, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Brackets for Windows, of which the following is a specication, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to window brackets, and the primary object is to provide a device of this character which will serve the double purpose of a curtain pole support, and a support for a 'window shade roller.
A further object of the invention is to provide a bracket which will support a curtain pole in such a manner as to permit the pole to be readily applied to and removed from its supports.
The construction of my improvement willl be fully described hereinafter in connection with the accompanying drawing which forms a part of thisspeciiication, and its novel features will be set forth in the appended claims.
In the drawing, Figure 1 is a front elevation of a curtain pole supported by brackets embodying the invention, Fig. 2 is a view in perspective of a window bracket constructed in accordance with the invention, Fig. 8 is a side elevation of the same'with a curtain pole in position thereon, the pole being shown in section, and Fig. 4 is adetail view illustrating a modification of the bracket shown in the other figures.
The body portion of the bracket is preferably formed of a single strip of metal and comprises a vertical portion 1, a horizontal longitudinally slotted arm 2, and a curved brace 3 connecting the end of the arm 2 with the vertical member 1 of the bracket, the lower end 4 of the brace 3 being bent downwardly and riveted to the member 1 as shown in Fig. 2. The lower end of the vertical member 1 is twisted at the point 5 to provide a lug 6 disposed at right angles to the vertical plane of the member 1 and formed with an opening 7 to receive one of the journals of a shade roller. One of the lugs 6 of each pair of the improved brackets is .formed with a slot 8 as shown in Fig. 4 adapted to receive the square ournal of the ordinary spring shade roller.
Adjustably secured to the horizontal portion 2 of the bracket by means of a bolt 9 and a butterfly nut 10 is an arm 11 formed with a It is obvious that the device constructed i as above described is adapted to support curtain poles of various constructions, but I have shown in the drawing (Fig. 3) a hollow pole 14 formed along its rear side with a longitudinal slot 18 and a rod 19 around which the curtain 20 is wrapped, said rod 19 being inserted into the hollow pole 17 through the slot 18.
TheA improved bracket serves as a support for both a curtain pole and shade roller and the arm 1 1 may be readily adjusted upon the horizontal portion 2 of the bracket. The angle arm 16 is also readily adjustable to clamp the curtain pole in position within its bearing 13 and to permit the pole to be removed without disturbing the position of the shade roller.
The vertical member 1 of the bracket is formed with suitable openings as shown at 21 in Fig. 2, for thepassage of screws or like fastening devices for securing the bracket upon a window frame.
What I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A window bracket comprising a vertical member adapted to be secured to a window frame, a horizontal member projecting from the vertical member, an arm adjustably 'secured to said horizontal member and having its outer end curved downward to provide a bearing for a curtain pole, and a bracket adjustably secured to said arm for securing the curtain pole within its bearing.
2. A window frame comprising a vertical member having its lower end twisted to a position at right angles to the body of said vertical member and provided with a bearing, a longitudinally slotted horizontal member, and a brace connecting said members, in combination with a longitudinally adjustable arm having its forward end curved downward to provide a bearing for a curtain pole, and an angle arm adjustably secured to said longitudinally adjustable arm and adapted to co-act with the latter to support the curtain pole.
lOO
3. The combination with a bracket coml ably secured to said longitudinally slotted 1o arm. l In testimony whereof I aflix my signature l 1n the presence of two witnesses.
PATRICK A, FENIAN. l
prising a Vertical member, an integral longitudinally slotted horizontal member, and a brace connecting said members, vof a longitudinally slotted arm having its forward end curved downward, a bolt extending through said arm and through the longitudinal slot oi Witnesses: the horizontal member above the bracket, a MAX H. SROLOVITZ, nut on said bolt, and an angle arm adjust- A. J. TRIGG.
